yes it would be more transparent but we then go back to fighters not being matched like in boxing, rematches not happening due to ridiculous money demands sometimes by both partys. keep it under one roof i say, give the fans what they demand, best versus best all year round. sure fighters can be carried in mma if your in the clique, the thing is fans can respect the fighter on a losing streak because they give it there best shot, kind of "lose the fight in style" if there's such a thing. occasionally you get let downs where a fighter is just running and trying to survive the match and these fighters get a dressing down (dont know what clay guida was thinking in his last fight) lol. thankfully these fights are'nt the norm. i frankly cant think of any boxing match up i'd stay up til 3am to watch, i paid to see klitshco v haye on ppv and vowed never to bother with the sport again, "my toe was hurting" ffs! i saw a mma fight not long back, sorry cant recall the fighters name, he broke his toe, it was pointing upwards and he still finished the fight! mma's on the rise and boxing's on a decline, i feel sorry for people like gnash, boxing being ruined by agents.

That is one of my favourite films................. "So, it is you, the brother"........"But this time its going to be different ,,, Russian"..

good points well made, i understand where your coming from and there is no doubt about it they are some of the fittest athlete's in sport today and respect to them but i would still per fare Pride and the rawness of their approach to a fighting competition, maybe its just that some match ups in ufc are so over-hyped and just dont live up to the expectation,,

When Anderson silva was chastised for fighting as he was in the mentioned fight , was more along the lines of finish the fight and stop f*****g about. He was toying with Demian Maia and could have finished the fight alot earlier but decided to f**k around , management didn't tell silva how to fight more so finish the fight and stop making a mockery.

what im saying is things would be alot more transparent if they were all free agents like boxing , is Holyfield still boxing??

dont get me wrong im a big fan of mma but it appears that if you get well settled in with the powers that be in ufc , a fighter can be carried,

So in your opinion what fighters have been carried...? The way i've seen it is if you go and give your all in the cage and the fight is a good one whether you win, loose or draw then theres a good chance Dana will match you with another opponent. If you think your just going to turn up for the money then think again......boring fighters dont get the big fights or even the big money.

Why should someone who is an iconic figure in MMA (Tito) not get his chance to make a few bucks one last time? Dont get me wrong he is far far from the fighter he was but that was the 3rd fight between himself and Forrest and it was the decider between them. I think he can leave now without making himself look silly by fighting other opponents..

agree with that Dana has even said in press conference that its the guys that go in give it their all will fight again even if they loose a few fights on the trot as long as they entertain the fans. was watching some other organisation a week or 2 ago and one guy was down on all fours and got kicked full bore in the head like a peno but if ufc allowed that still it wouldnt be as main stream as it is today so the money wouldnt be there and there would be no incentive for THE best athletes to go into a career in it

I know what your saying gnash, MMA has changed raqdically in ln less than 20 years, but unfortunately it has been forced too in todays climate.

My point being Simoman.....folk like yourself say this and that about boxing and how the " rules have changed ".......your wrong, boxing never sold out on its morals like the ufc did.....

The Marquess of Queensbury Rules were set in 1867...............not one of the major 12 rules does not still apply today......the sport has lasted near 150 years without change.........ufc lasted about 3 years !!

Thats true mate.............i think the hardcore MMA fans would like to see 'more contact' like it used to be but we have to move with the times. If someone was to be killed by a kick or knee to the head on the floor then the sport would be banned before it even got main stream. You just have to look at boxing to see how boring it is nowadays, i'd never pay money to go to a boxing match in the fear it would be stopped for some silly wee cut....

Dont feel sorry for people like me mate,i was born into boxing and i,ll die with it..............for me a few idiot characters dont ruin what is still the purest form of competition there is.......ufc is entertainment......boxing is competition.......the reality is sometimes a competetive fight just isnt all that exciting.......look at how some of the early ufc fights with fighters like Shamrock/Gracie etc played out.....30 minutes of not particularly interesting grappling for position on the floor......BUT thats how fighting is sometimes its not all that exciting.........i dont care for excitement i care for purity of a competetive match be it boxing football or a game of chess..........if 2 fighters styles make for an uninteresting boring tactical fight should we throw one of them out and bring in a blood and guts guy whos going to swing his arms ?........

You cant change what " a fight " essentially is just to entertain a crowd.............and thats exactly what the ufc has done......i think its a shame as it would of been a sport id of had a lot of interest in testing myself in if i was a young man again :D ........but for me you just cant compromise on what a sport is just to put a smile on peoples faces.

Your perhaps misunderstanding me gnash, I for one wont start comparing MMA and boxing, to me they are totally different sports. I didnt say the rules had changed, just that boxing was a watered down version of bare knuckle  But as you say the rules havent changed for a long time. I think the UFC has been toyed with and tweaked as a money making exercise, whcih its been very successfull, sometimes sport and business can get too entwined.......
