Guest Moscow
Are you saying you like watching fighters who counter fight and fight to win on points? Massive difference between fighting not to loose and getting in there and trying to win and finish by submission or KO. You say sport when the UFC 1st started out it was far from sport. It started off as " no rules "...." cage fighting " whatever you want to call it.....it was started to see what the outcome of a " real fight " would be........yes id call that a sport. Ok over the years the rules have changed to suit tv etc........but it should still essentially be " a fight " not a means of entertainment.....i dont care how a fight ends as long as its a true fight...............................if the management are going to dictate how one of the greatest fighters of the sport wins his fights your on a steady path to silly boys wrestling................you cant tell someone how they can or cant fight and then call it a true fight. If you want entertainment go to the cinema and leave the purity of sport out of it. I know how it started Ive been a fan since the UFC began and it was to see which was the best discipline, back then Jiu Jitsu but guess I better start going to the cinema

Simoman 110
Groin shots, head butts and a myriad of things HAD to be governed or the sport would of died before it started. The no holds barred was a great selling point for the first few fight cards, BUT to ensure the sport was licensed and had a future it HAD to alter the rules. Even now some states in the USA and senators oppose MMA competitions at any opportunity.
Simoman 110
The sport has evolved beyond belief, the fighters from the first few UFC's were a mixture of a few skilled fighters like Shamrock/Gracie, some journeymen like Gordeau/Rosier and some street thugs like Abbot/Ferrozzo. The sport has developed so much the skill levels of the original fighters quickly became obsolete. Unfortunately the world is governed by rules, boxing is the same, would we class boxing as a sport as its a heavily censored and rule laden shadow of its former self, bare knuckle? gnasher16 30,121
What would you call a true fight? If you market something as " a real fight "....then thats what it should be.........................as Simoman says that quickly changed due to outside pressure,ok you accept that to a point..........................but to then take that to the point of telling a world champion he cant fight a certain way because its not entertaining enough.......i think is the time it risks not even being a sport ! Apart from the amount of rounds now being limited to 12.............the sport of boxing hasnt changed in over 100 years !.......................ufc is barely recognisable from what it started off as,a mere 20 years ago. predatorman 54
i used to follow boxing avidly years ago now it just bores me to death. fighters avoiding each other, fights stopped because of small cuts etc. ufc gives fight fans what they want most of the time, best against best,so many different ways to win, broken limbs, blood, its the future. I know what your saying gnash, MMA has changed raqdically in ln less than 20 years, but unfortunately it has been forced too in todays climate.
nitestalker 28 209
Boxing is gone boring to watch I bet a lot of UFC guys wud make it at boxing how many boxers wud make it in UFC ?
moonlighter 1,164
IMO the UFC is now the main player in combat sports. No ducking dodging and no wanting to fight like in boxing, ( like Eubanks and Roy jones). Both world champs but never faced each other. Also there is no sport that's has rules like boxing, (especially in the armatures). You put a boxer in with a Mma fighter and he would soon realise that Mma is as close to true fighting as you can get.
Casso 1,261
The big problem with the UFC is that all the fighters are working for the same paymaster, they are all in the same company, a big buddy's club all trying to turn over a few bucks, So when a fighter like Nick Dias comes along and cant play by company rules by his very nature, he cant do the buddy/buddy approach to a fight, he seen as a problem and who and when he fights or if he fights at all can effect his career, fighters generally toe the line, until we have a situation where the fighters arn't just taking a wage from the same employer i mean if the ufc really wants to be taken seriously what are fighters like Ortiz still doing fighting at this stage, he had his day but can be trotted out for a big payday at this stage in his career , they just hype up the fight and the basic yank ufc fan will just go along with it because its ufc, where else would you see it, the marketing machine they have is the strongest thing at their disposal not the fighters,,
moonlighter 1,164
If they worked for different company's then they wouldn't fight each other, as they wouldn't want to risk them loosing. And as for your Tito comment, what about Holyfield!!
predatorman 54
the thing is casso, even the veterans give their all once inside the octagon. i would'nt deny him a last payday after an exciting career and lets face it, tito didnt go into the fight expecting to flick a jab out for a points win, you wouldnt preserve your features with those boring tactics lol. Casso 1,261
what im saying is things would be alot more transparent if they were all free agents like boxing , is Holyfield still boxing?? dont get me wrong im a big fan of mma but it appears that if you get well settled in with the powers that be in ufc , a fighter can be carried, Edited July 9, 2012 by Casso
