Lab 10,979
So why do you think that a world class athlete chooses to listen to tips from Segal?? You think he likes his f*****g films??? No I'd imagine he respects what he has done in his martial arts and might learn something.

No I'd imagine he respects what he has done in his martial arts and might learn something. I think anyone listening to him is a mug tbh. No, i don't think he likes his film, surely no f****r does, there shit. He has done nothing in martial arts, competition wise. Should Chael Sonnen give Van Damme or Jet Li a call? A top level MMA athlete needs to be well rounded, grappling, boxing, wrestling, jui jitsu etc etc, not some fat b movie actor who has borrowed his hair from the count in seaseme street........ 69 year old judo legend Gene Lebell choked Seagal out in front of his students at an exhibition in 2002

Neither has Bruce Lee..........but i wouldn't have fought him in a cage.... If Sonnen felt like he could learn something from Jet Li then why not phone him. So are you saying if they chose the acting route then they cant train fighters. Hope Silva doesn't think he can phone up Randy Couture either..............
Casso 1,261
mma is still evolving, it takes what works from all forms of martial arts, nobody involved in mma has all the answers, thats what makes it so interesting, even a slight advantage in whatever form it takes, even from a nobhead can make a difference, keep an open mind,

Im my opinion Bruce Lee would of had his arse handed to him on a plate within the first round with any half decent MMA fighter. Im not saying its because Seagals an actor, although that debatable in itself. Its all about hype, i dont think Seagal could bring anything to the table except publicity, Machida and Silva both credit Seagal for teaching them the crane kick, f**k off, i saw Ralph Macchio perfect that in 1987 And Couture was an olympic class wrestler before entering MMA, then he became an actor

I watched a wee documentary about Bruce Lee mate and a bare knuckle boxer said he used to train in there gym. They all tried to beat him and he knocked f**k out of them....all sizes and weights. Would loved to have seen Bruce in the cage............
Simoman 110
No, i think his films are terrible Bruce Lee? But is that just a story, and if it wasn't what was the caliber of his opponents?
marshman 7,757
I can't see how steven seagal can teach silva anything . The only reason I can see is that Anderson thinks seagal might get him a role in a movie!
gnasher16 30,121
Would you say that about Bruce lee??? Bruce Lee a trainer of champions ? If thats how it worked Muhammed Ali should of been the greatest boxing trainer of all time......................in reality people like Dundee,Futch,Arcel,Freddie Roach are the greatest trainers of all time....and they were very average fighters themself.......i would imagine it works the same in mma. Steven Seagal .....maybe Amir Khan should get Rocky Balboa in his corner ! Edited July 7, 2012 by gnasher16

Well i cant prove it mate but it was a documentary i watched on You tube. He was a bare knuckle/ street fighter and he said Bruce came to there gym to train. The guys at the gym all wanted to fight him to beat him and he embarresed them, no one could get near him. He even said that people would speak to him and say Bruce Lee is nothing because he has done nothing in the competition world....His reply to them was "Neither have i, would you like a fight!!"......... redpat1 225
Come on guys, are you being serious! This is playground stuff and who knows what anybody can get from anyone else, we are not in the loop and probably never will be. Every type of fighter has other types or styles that he has a jinx against or just cant deal with. I recently sparred with a 17st K1 fighter who was a semi pro boxer, I barely lasted a 5 minute round and couldnt see straight for 2 days after! A little while after I went up against a fella who gave the K1 fighter a real hard time and we ended up on the floor, I somehow managed to get an RNC(complete luck), this guy is way out of my league usually and now wants to take me apart! I also have a friend who I train with who is 9st dripping wet and I often watch him demolish guys up to twice his size with Muay Thai skills, his ground game is pretty effective as well as he is like a worm that never stops moving. By the way not trying to show I am tough or anything of a sort as I usually get whipped and go just for the love of it and the fitness. Pat (currently with a broken rib) Not joking! oh and you lot are right, Segal films are shite but who are we to criticise a guy who has made millions from doing something that he loves.lol Edited July 7, 2012 by redpat1

No one is forcing Silva to take tips from Segal so he must see something in it? Just because Segal chose movies instead of fighting doesn't mean he cant handle himself. Theres alot more money in films than there is in Martial Arts mate and we all have to make a living.
