gnasher16 30,216
Gnasher......What do you mean by UFC is entertainment and Boxing is Competition?... Using an example to keep it simple............ Dana White the overall big chief of the UFC,threatening and dictating to the the worlds greatest fighter about how he must and must not fight ........in order to make things more entertaining for the crowd. Entertainment is about fun and enjoyment.............Competition is about winning or losing regardless of fun and enjoyment.

moonlighter 1,164
It was when silva took the piss out of the jujitsu world champ (I forget his name) when they fought. Dana said if he pulls a stunt like that again then he would be dropped from the UFC. Fair play coz it was there first show in Abu dabi, which is a massive jujitsu country, and didn't want him disrespecting one of there idols.
nitestalker 28 209
Boxing is gone boring to watch I bet a lot of UFC guys wud make it at boxing how many boxers wud make it in UFC ? How many ufc fighters have boxed professionally ?...........seeing as boxings where the moneys at logic would tell you if they could.....they would........ A few washed up pro boxers have gone into mma and fought at a high level......where are the washed up mma fighters that have gone into boxing and fought at a high level ? You look at junior dos santos his hand are unreal would hold his own with most of the heavy weight bums that's about today and prob beat most of them at there own game of jus boxing now you turn it into an mma fight couple of leg kicks a slam an elbow whatever all over point I'm making is a lot of UFC fighters have great boxing skills and would hold there own with a boxer how many boxers would hold there own with a well rounded UFC fighter James tony got destroyed by randy couture who stood and traded with him before slamming him and choking the fat waster out
Simoman 110
[Your perhaps misunderstanding me gnash, I for one wont start comparing MMA and boxing, to me they are totally different sports. I didnt say the rules had changed, just that boxing was a watered down version of bare knuckle But as you say the rules havent changed for a long time. I think the UFC has been toyed with and tweaked as a money making exercise, whcih its been very successfull, sometimes sport and business can get too entwined....... " Boxing is a watered down version of bareknuckle " ..............150 years of history and tradition.............................Some things are just not worth debating. Agree about ufc......it sold out on itself Gnash, its not always easy to get a point across on a computer, my point about being watered down, i meant boxing was originally bare fists, gloves were introduced as part of the marquis of Queensburry rules. I enjoy boxing, i used to like hammering a punch bag and sparring a few rounds, but im a bigger fan of MMA. Perhaps we should leave it there, i could waffle on all night over a diet coke in a pub but its hard to convey my points across on here

The fact that plenty of boxers have gone straight into mma at a high level.......but no mma fighters have gone straight into boxing at a high level.......should answer your question for you
gnasher16 30,216
would we class boxing as a sport as its a heavily censored and rule laden shadow of its former self, bare knuckle? Simoman i understand exactly what your saying.......but i remind you that this above was what you originally said..............." would we class boxing as a sport " .......the only difference between 200 years ago and today is a pair of gloves....................thats not " heavily censored and rule laden "...................and saying the introduction of the Queensbury Rules means its a " shadow of its former self " and a " watered down version of bareknuckle " etc...................................is a bit like saying an American Pit Bull Terrier is a watered down version of a British Bulldog !!
