alfhucker 4
Hi there I have a Jill with a swollen left cheek I am assuming its from an ear infection as there is black residue in here ear , this is the first time I've seen it this bad I've used cotton buts to remove what I can with out pushing any further in , the Jill is acting fine and does not seam in any distress , Other than the vets is thay any thing I can do myself to help reduce the swelling . Ps I check the ferrets regular but due to having kitts she's been a little nipper , only noticed the swelling today . Quote Link to post
diggermad 154
hi mate cant help with the swelling but go to any horse feed place and get a bottle of OTODEX costs about £2.35 put a few drops down her ear and gently rub the canal of her ear and massage it down her ear on the outside but before you do that just clean her ear with a cotton bud dont go too far in hope that helps cheers DM Quote Link to post
joe14 98
Dont use cotton buds, clean them up with a baby wipe but dont prod around inside her ears as their realy delicate an you could do some damage. If its ear ear infection then they will probs give antibiotics and ear drops. Ear mites will need stronghold to treat them. If you say its her cheek though have you checked her teeth aswell. Could have a bad tooth or something, is she eating and drinking ok. Realy she needs to see a vet as they will know, you probs will spend more trying different petshop things instead of just getting it sorted streight away with stronger stuff from the vets. broonball 38
Would the otodex work on a dog? Just outa interest. Could it be used as a preventative measure rather than a cure? Is this a common problem in ferrets/dogs? Ferret lugs aren't guna b easy to clean. Cheers Quote Link to post

ferret100 47
With ear cleaners, best to massage in and leave for a min or two, gives it a chance to work on the wax. Give ears a wipe and massage and wipe again, ear cleaner left in the ear canal can cause as much problems as the wax. Edited July 8, 2012 by ferret100 Quote Link to post
