I understand that Gnasher, you're just taking a very traditional/purist view of it. But here's something to ponder on if you're much of a thinker; what is your definition of a sport?

Its a debate thats raged for years i suppose,so clearly not a black and white thing.....im certainly not blessed enough in the English language to put a definition on what i think a sport is and im not ignornat as much as to say this or this isnt......like anything its down to what an individual thinks dont necessarily make them right.....as an example for me darts is a sport and cyclings not..............cant really explain my own twisted logic but just the way i see it......always an interesting topic though

after i wrote the above post i went on youtube,,, and saw brezenks,, as you say he looks like a train spoter,,, no the fella i was on about is travis somthing real loud mouth,,,,but ive just watched him loose to that devon larrat ,, and to a few others, one thing they all seem to have very thik forarms ,, and as you say say im sure there tendons are very srong...

i know fecking around at work years ago on the doors, i realy hurt me fecking shoulder arm wrestling a big scandy doorman , he was built like bigger version of dolph lungren,,,

it just all looks pianfull to me...........

Travis Bageant.....yes he,s one of the top pullers but he pulls more left handed than right which obviously worldwide theres more right handed than left.......Like most other things the East Europeans and Russians are taking over.....if you get time Tomo check out a fella called Alexi Voevoda i went to Poland some years back to watch the world championships he beat Bageant and Brzenk semi final and final and was unbelievable everybody at the time said he will never be beaten........but he packed the sport in straight away to compete in Bobsleigh !!!

Its more about technique than outright strength Brzenk for me was the best ever simply because he could just beat any style.....without complicating it too much you get 2 basic styles which is hook and top roll......and variations of both.......hook is a basic power move whereas top rollers are pressuring the hand rather than the arm the posting top roll is a variation i like but you can leave yourself wide open to a hook if it doesnt come off straight away........remember the old rock, paper, scissors game...............a lot of people describe top level arm wrestling as similar to that :D ......its what style wins over another style.

My definition of a sport would be. Anything physical ,and mentally chalkenging in a competitive Way.

But then I could shoot my own theory down, with mountaineering ! Possibly the most challenged and physically draining pursuit out there. Some will say of course it's a sport. But is walking to the south or north poll a sport! Guess like gnasher says its an argument that's went for years.

I know f**k all about the Olympics really Wat were the original events?

That was a very very exaggerated version of a top roll yes................a posting top roll is mainly for a longer arm....post ( as in lamp post )....meaning your basically pulling towards your own body and making your forearm as long as possible before turning the arm over......the further away you can drag your opponents hand from his body the weaker he becomes thats just the law of physics............you really have to be strong in the whole arm from fingers/wrists all the way up to shoulder.....even your lats come into play.........but still nothing is more important than speed and technical ability......these fellas with stumpy little thick arms rarely do well they just dont have the leverage and movement to adapt to different styles......look at Devon Larrat as an example he,s hardly Mr Universe is he.

intresting stuff,, cheers gnash ,,, the reason i ask is i have a mate, who ive never seen loose,,admitidly its in pubs and stuff,, but he has beat some fecking large lumps,, then again hes not small at 6.5 , and 19 stone with abs,(wanker)..lol hes quite strong too,,,, concidering he broke his back about 5 years ago we were training a few months back and he did a 20 rep set of squats with 3 plates,, good squats to , down to parralel,,,

Pulling on a proper competition table is a whole different ball game to pulling across a table or bar...............ive won and lost good money messing about like that years ago it was only when i started taking it more serious that i realised just how much is about technique and how much is actual strength.......ive seen real strong guys pull the arm off you over the dinner table but when on a comp table couldnt pin you for love nor money !

That said....if they,re 25kg plates to my calculations thats 170kg with an Olympic bar......damn good squatting for somebody so tall......squat/deadlift is normally the breaker of the real tall blokes he must have great lower back power which considering he had a slight back injury :D ....fair play to him

Still a nice weight though mate.......heres a little test you can give your pal as regards arm wrestling......

Lets say his 1 rep max on a dumbell curl is 40 kg ( just as an example )...........put a 60 kg dumbell in his hand at 90 degrees to his body and tell him to hold it there for 20 seconds, not curl it just hold it..................................that will be a good indicator of his tendon strength as opposed to muscular strength.

So whatever his max 1 rep curl is......put half again on and hold it at 90 degrees........its usually a good rough guide ;)

THAT IS SO TRUE , IM NOT RASCIST BUT SOME OF THESE FOREIGN TRADESMAN ARE CLUELESS BLAG ARTIST AND GET AWAY WITH IT ON BIGGER SITES.

WHEVER ITS FOR THE REASON OF EQUAL HUMANITY RIGHTS OR FOR CHEAPER LABOUR ITS STILL AN ISSUE WHAT NEVER GETS ADRESSED PROPERLY BECAUSE YOUR RACIST AS SOON AS YOU CRITICISE FOREIGN TRADESMAN. THIS SEEMS TO BE A SIGN OF THE TIMES, EVEN THO YOU CANT UNDERSTAND WHAT THERE SAYING TO YOU AND WHAT GRIPS MY SHIT IS WHEN THEY SPEEK TO THERE OWN IN THERE FOREIGN LANGUAGE AND YOU DONT KNOW WHAT THERE SAYING AND THEN THEY JUST SNIGGER AT YOU, THIS IS WHEN I WANT TO CHUCH THEM OVER THE SCAFFOLDING :icon_eek:

Have been on jobs when our european cousins were there & when you ask if they have their tickets I always get told to shut up & stop causing trouble. Bloody chancers getting away with it .
