Gaz_1989 9,539
I posted a few weeks ago saying i was moving house and after ideas for my new kennels... The New house has got a double garage at the top of the garden and 25' of concrete base to the left of it. So im gonna butt the dog run up to the garage. 6m x 2m (20' x 6' in old money!) using 2m Galv panels with 5cm gaps between bars. I will then knock a 2' x 2' hole through the garage into a corner of the garage partitioned off with 2 more 2m panels. So they will have a section of the garage 2m x 2m. 2 sides brick and 2 sides galv panels. What would you do for a bed? Just bedding on the floor? Put a box in? Plastic basket and bedding? Ive thought about raising a shelf and then put bedding on that? I really am trying to steer clear of wood as both my dogs are terrible chewers. I will put them a heatlamp in during the winter months :-) Gaz Quote Link to post

Dancing Dog 10
I've got my dogs in plastic crates on top of wooden panels on the floor, they can't get to the wood so this stops them chewing it. Good luck with whatever you choose to do Quote Link to post

Gaz_1989 9,539
Thanks for the replies. My garden slopes back, under the fence and into woodland so I think that's all the drainage I need. I will have a look at a few options. I fancy putting a shelf in to get them off the floor 18" with a 6" lip to keep bedding in (shredded cardboard). Gaz Quote Link to post

moonlighter 1,165
I've got the same set up mate, but I've made the section in the garage too big. There even with raised beds there is still room which means they piss on the garage floor and not outside in the run. This makes the garage stink at times as there is no drainage in there. Gaz_1989 9,539
Yeh fair point mate. Hadnt thought of that. Whats usually the best way then? Put a channel in the length of the run and connect to main drain somehow? With gridded lid on the channel? Slope the base towards the drain? Quote Link to post

How did you do your drainage mate? Any photos? How big was the garage section? Do you think 2m x 2m is too big for 2 lurchers and a terrier? Quote Link to post

Gaz_1989 9,539
I do like that idea, with a grid in the middle. Daft question but how do you slope a cement base? Sheets of plywood on top when it's drying? Do you have to deal the cement after? Cheers Quote Link to post
moonlighter 1,165
My garage section is the whole width of the garage which is about 12 foot by about 5/6 foot out. The sleeping boxes are raised and are about 3 1/2 foot square. This leaves a walk way of about 2 1/2 foot which is great for cleaning them out and such like, but as I've said the young dog pisses all over the floor and not the run floor outside. I'm going to make it much smaller soon, maybe even make a large sleeping box and push it up to the hole in the wall. Quote Link to post
Gaz_1989 9,539
Sound. I was thinking of 6 x 6 sleeping area with a 3' deep raised bed running the width so that would be 6x3 bed box and 6x3 flooring. My terrier would probably piss in there, I don't know. But she pisses in her own bed so not much hope there. Lol. My run will have plastic corrugated sheet the full length. Can't wait start it. Not looking forward to the cost. Haha. Quote Link to post
