gareth08 1
Hi guys and girls! New to the forum so apologies if this has been asked somewhere else already! I've just received my firearms certificate through the post. It has to go back already as they forgot to add the amount of ammunition I can hold - gives me another few days to 'persuade' the other half how important a rifle is - on top of my shotgun - ahem......... The other query I have that I've just noticed - I've got .17HMR .22 and .223 with moderators on the FAC. However what I'm not sure about is what .22 covers? I think I originally asked for .22LR but it doesn't specifically state .22LR - does that mean I can buy .22LR and .22 magnum? Just a bit of a grey area to me. Not a problem as yet as I'm planning to get the .17HMR initially, but would rather not have to send it back again anytime soon. Cheers Gareth. Quote Link to post
PlasticJock 539
It had been covered before several times mate, the general concencus was that technically you could purchase any .22 legally, however forget it as the firearms department wouldn't be impressed Just get a .22lr if that's what you asked for Quote Link to post
gareth08 1
Ok. Cheers. Thanks for that. Are the firearms happy enough to sell a .22LR if it's not specific? Quote Link to post
TWOTWOTHREE 152
Yes they will sell u a 22lr I asked my feo a few years ago about it not stating lr it only says 22 rifle,And 22 sound moderator, i just wanted to see what the answer would be,i already knew to be fair but he said no it doesn't mean Youcan get a wmr it means lr unless stated,I tried to explain to him how confusing this could be as it didn't even say rim fire, square peg round hole mate,if you asked for 22 lrrimmy that's wat it shall have to be, Atb 223 Quote Link to post
gareth08 1
Great stuff. Many thanks guys! TBH with a .17HMR i shouldnt really need the .22WMR - that'll probably open a big can of worms maybe.... .22lr is absolutely fine for what I'll need, paper punching, and maybe some close range bunnies. I'm pretty much decided on a CZ varmint in .17HMR, just have to decide whether to go for the 452 or the 453, I like the idea of the set trigger, but don't think it comes screw cut for the moderator on the 453. As for the 455 I don't know a whole lot about it. From what I've read you can't go wrong with any of them.......is there's a problem, it'll be me As for the .223 I'll probably wait until early next year for that - any recommendations for a decent .223? I read a few reviews on the Tikka's. Quote Link to post

gareth08 1
Thats a lovely cut of wood (pardon the pun). Is the 455 available in .17HMR, only ever seen it in WMR although I haven't checked in a while. I know they were bringing out barrels in all the rim fire calibres at some point. Did you need anything to fit both the sling and the bipod to the forward stud? I'm gonna give my old BSA 3-9 x 40 scope an extended lease of life. Haven't really shot anything beyond 50-60 yds on an air rifle, so was gonna try it out initially to see how it goes. Not the most expensive but never had any issues with it, and won't be shooting beyond about 120-150 yds max. Edited July 4, 2012 by gareth08 Quote Link to post
