NIGHT VISION

Hi Folks,

Perhaps some of you can give me some advice regarding night vision. The last time I had any experience with night vision rifle scopes was way back in the early seventies as a soldier in Northern Ireland with a starlight scope on my old SLR rifle, that if I recall weighed more than the bloody rifle lol.

 

Like most people I would love the idea of having thermal or a gen 3 riflescopes, but again like most people my budget wont stretch anywhere near that sort of money, and apart from that I only want a scope for keeping the rabbits down, with the odd charlie. So I have opted to get either one of these Pulsar N550 digital riflescope or the newer version Pulsar N750 that will be hitting the shops at the end of July.

 

For those who use nightvision riflescopes I ask what sort of extra IR illuminator I should buy to use with it (if you think I need it) I have heard that the N1000 is brilliant, but then there is the N2000, Pulsar do the L805, L808, L940 all in different IR wavelengths, so you can see my head is getting bleeding scrambled by all this.

 

Next question is I understand that these riflescopes eat up double A batteries, so I gather I will need an external power source. Is there any posibility that I can power the riflescope using my ATV fag lighter socket? Or would I be better off buying a pulsar battery pack?

 

Yukon have these little MPR video cameras that can attach to the scope, that record HD and with sound etc, but at a price. Anyone knows of a cheaper recorder?

 

I would appreciate any help that you guys and gals can offer. I just want to make sure that when I do put in my order I get the right kit for my bucks if you all know what I mean.

In the Shooting Sports section of the forums there is a dedicated Night Vision section. If you post in there you will get a much better response. I have a Pulsar N550 which sits in the spare bedroom gaining dust. I also have a Starlight Archer add on, gen 3, with a fire fly laser that i love to bits. The Pulsar eats batteries while the Starlight will run for 60(ish) hours on one battery, a CR123's.

What kind of wonger you looking at spending (ball park fig)??, this will then help to point you in the best dir of which unit to get.

Another one for the Archer, Grade D, no dark spots, Excellent, ive had a Pulsar and the archer blows it out of the water. If your on a budget the Nite Site NS200 is excellent. I do own one. I sold the pulsar to buy it.

In order of the ones ive used.

1- Starlight Archer £1600

2- Nite Site NS200 £600

3- Pulsar N550 £1000
