Hawke Airmax Or Mambe Lite??

Had a look at the Nikon Pro Staff EFR today and if it wasn't for the incredibly fine reticle i might have been tempted.

 

Surely thats a good thing? Who wants a big fat reticle getting in the way of the site picture?

The scope I ended up going with was the Hawke Map Pro MP 4-16x50 AO from Simon. It's a few years old and was bought from Guns International in Wakefield when they went bust.

 

What swung it for me me was the nice simple SR6 ret that's very similar to the 30-30 and generic rets that I'm used to and also the fact that Simon almost gave the thing away

 

The Mamba's are a properly nice bit of kit though and if it hadn't been for the price, it's probably the scope I'd have gone for but even then not by much. Thanks for the help on that one, Davy

Hope you get on ok with the Hawke. I had another look at the Nikon EFR and it is really growing on me. I think my worry about the reticle may have been wrong.

Yeah the Nikons are nice, properly made, way better than the Chinese stuff.

I also had a look at the Nikons and they're a lovely looking and very well screwed together bit of kit. I like the fine rets on them personally but I can understand how some folks wouldn't like them. Another scope I think is worth a mention for the money are the Redfield Revenge range. I've not tried one first hand but I've heard very good things about them.

The reticle isn't too fine, my brother bough one the other day (not an EFR but same reticle) and it looked just right.

 

Shame they don't have mill dots though.

 

I'm not sure the Redfield reticle would work well on an air rifle either.

I think i had just fallen into the thinking that bigger is better and that my Ranger needs a high mag tactical scope, side pa, multi aimpoint reticle that can be illuminated and target turrets. I suspect that the EFR will be at the top of my wish list very soon. Think i will have another look next week.

Main thing Andy, you are back shooting with a reliable, brand-new quality scope that will last you well and I was more than happy to see you sorted. Now you can peruse what else is out there from MTC and co. without the pressure to get a scope at all costs.

 

Hope you get sorted with a stock for the HW80 mate.
