After reading alot of posts on this forum I am struggling to understand how some dog mens logic comes from! There are some that expect so much from a cainine its unreal. They expect the perfect dog. How can we expect a dog to be perfect in every way, i am yet to find some half decent human beings. The majority of faults in dogs comes from inferior training by humans in the first place. Some people go through that many dogs because them themselves make mistakes with the dogs training then pass it on. Any dog I take on stays with me whether its got faults or not. An to comment on the idiot the other day who said he would hit his dog with the hammer if it did somethin, can you imagine him trying to train a dog. Sometimes its the owners who need training.

I wouldn't knock high standards! There are plenty of knuckle draggers but folks with high standards and little tollerance for anything short often have very decent dogs.

 

A lot of dogs are let down by a lack of effort from their owner though, that I agree with.

I have high standards when I'm training a dog. There is nothing wrong with high standards. But were you a1 at school? Could you work everything out that you were asked to? But id bet you would expect your dog to!

It doesn't really matter what I was like at school.

 

All I'm saying is if someone wants the best dogs then their standards and expectations have to be as high as what is achievable and sustainable. That will obviously be at the expense of dogs that are just average. It's a sickening fact, they can't all be champions.

 

Having unrealistic/impossible expectations is stupid. If that is what you mean then I agree with you. But what is unrealistic???

most of the show fraternity try to breed to standards set by the Kennel Club its no good breeding to that artificial standard they are trying to improve on nature, how many dogs are discarded by these people trying to obtain that champion of champions and how many genetic defects have been introduced trying to breed to artificial type.

theyre are perfect dogs and theyre is quite a few, but a perfect dog to one person is rubbish to somebody else vice versa

i dont be to fussy on comands so to speak so

wudnt really bother me if my dog sits and stays as long as they jump and come when called

altho i do set the bar high when hunting

every dog has an off day tho but thats up to owner to recognise. i wudnt be to hasty in getn rid

That's a true statement born hunter. Shame that half the humans that don't reach the grade end up shelters and get pts. I just think there are those people you read on here running dogs at six month old and saying it hasn't made the grade.

A good dog man gives his pups every chance at success and understands what is needed, when and in what quantity BUT still keeps his standards high and not let sentiment leave him blind to reality.

I have extremely high standards for my dogs. I have 11 dogs and I treat it like professional sports. If they don't make the cut they don't make my team and they either move on to somebody with lower standards who will have a better fit or they go down the never ending road .22cal. I am always hoping my dogs are getting better and I would like to think I'm moving forward not regressing. To keep every dog I ever owned would be asking too much of most dogs, having too high of expectations. I think that is probably why most people that shoot themselves do it is because they cant live up to what their peers expect as the norm, so a dog that doesnt live up to its masters expectations will never have the same bond as a dog that more closely does. And remember a good dog eats just as much as a bad one, even cost more if it doesnt fill the pot. I know that no dog is perfect but if they were lets say 85% there, I would like to think time, hard work, a good breeding program would produce a dog that 87% someday way sooner than one who sticks with the dog forever. If everybody had the mindset that you have bigbailey there wouldnt be individual breeds or the greyhounds that run 45 mph would run 35 mph. That is how the world is. The good lord put the animals here to serve us, they are not our equals. And in the wild its the same principle, only the strongest survive so why should it be any different for domesticated animals. Just because they were born on god green earth doesnt mean they dont have to earn anything. I find it funny everybody gets all worked up about animal rights. When was the last time you talked to a dog and it told you it was afraid of dying? None of mine even act like they are afraid of it nor do they know what death is.

The best training in the world still doe's not make a dog doe's it ? a dog with no heart is born that way and no amount of training will make it have it, so if ye keep well trained dogs with faults ie jacker's or lacking in a certain area thats up to you i wouldnt keep them though
