NIckinSurrey 6
With a bit of luck there may be two Lancasters flying soon! There are two already but one of those is in Canada. There are many rumours in the flying community that the third has flown already if it is the one you are talking about. Nick

scothunter 12,609
Hadn't heard that mate , that's what's wrong with this nation, to many today thinking we should be ashamed of our past. The frogs celebrate, even though they haven't done anything worth celebrating.

I'm supposed to be descended from the most senior British officer killed at Waterloo, if my family history is correct. Going to research it properly one day and find out. staffs riffraff 1,068
Wouldnt say he has been forgotten, just this generation don't seem to be interested in its history or it's heroes. Rather go on Facebook and twitter and talk about f*****g celebrities and big brother too true then we wonder why we see white kids acting and speaking like there from the caribean lol this country might have done a lot of bad shit the past 4/5 hundred years but made the world a hell of a lot better and did ten times as much good as bad. But our kids are taught to be ashamed of the big bad EMPIRE fair enough point the bad things out but look at the infastructure and laws and such that were part of it and if we was that bad look at the countrie where we had the most influence and mostly setup/started by people from these isles ie Canada, Australia, America and even to a lasser extent south africa compared to the rest of the continent look at zimbabwe now that it isnt being run by decendants of brit/irish all these countries have gone on t be some of the best places to live in the world look at the huge effect that Hong Kong has had on china since we handed it back to the chinese as i would say that was a major poiny where China really turned into what it has. Going back to our bomber crews these men went out on orders under massive threat to life and for mot of the war was the only way we could hurt Germany until our ground forces were bought up to strength. And defo agree about the mosquito but even more of an unsung hero was the hurricane

The Seeker 3,048
I'm aware of thre second Lancaster in Canada but please tell me more about the rumour of a third one to fly where is it???? I wish Peter Jackson would pull his finger out and finish off the remake of The Dambusters, can you imagine it with all the modern effects it will be awesome. The script is being written by Stephen Fry so an Australian director and an English writer they won't do that Hollywood Shite and make out it was yanks that bombed the dams with B17's.
Malt 379
The Dambuster bombs were innovative, but IMO the best ones Wallis came up with were the grand slam and tallboy bombs. They certainly had a higher success rate and the tallboy was the one that finally seen off the Tirpitz. I remember reading something about a miniature version of the Dambuster bomb being fitted to the mosquito for use against ships, not sure how effective they were though.. Kay 3,709
if what this old boy is saying is correct then it looks like someones got to pick up the tab for the whole day as the government have offered nothing towards the whole event & the unveiling of the memorial http://www.telegraph.co.uk/history/raf-bomber-command/9361572/Bomber-Command-memorial-service-as-it-happened.html
