hyperion 122
I've tried most non-electronic calls and so far hand calling and the wham whistle are best! Quote Link to post
jamie g 17
hand calling is best imo if you use a fox caller then the wam is good. if you want top of the range then look at the fox pro there superb Quote Link to post

jamie g 17
A I got a spitfire Foxpro and it is excellent bit pricey but they are quality Yes they are pricey but worth it if you do alot of foxing. I have the firestorm its superb. A friend of mine brings them into the country. He will beat any price over here. And even supply them with a great number of calls for uk wildlife. muddy210 34
you can have the best fox calls on the market but they dont allways work. getting a fox to come to a call is a matter of using the wind, using the call properly to imitate the animal you are trying to be usually a rabbit. and a host of varying other things that can crop up. all the stories you read about the fox came galloping upto the whistle without stopping are true to some extent but only sometimes. i go out frequently with a team that have been calling foxes for a very very long time and have seen most things related to calling foxes.... BUT we are allways learning and trying different tactics to get them. if you are using a rabbit call when the fox is hunting poults its not even gonna look at coming your way is what its hunting more interesting than what you are offering it ie a dyeing rabbit or mouse or whatever. calling a fox to within shotgun range is a very good skill to have. but a range of callers is the best answer as when one wont work another can have them running to you at speeds you wonder if they are going to offer a shot. the electric callers are good but i find the hand callers offer more options also try to learn to use the back of your hand and that can give you loads of different tones and sounds polystyrene on the window works sometimes aswell. but i think the best advice is to use the call and the wind to your advantage. blowing on a call non stop will never work using it then stopping then a few minutes later is a good tactic to get the fox interested try using it for ten seconds then wait a minute then again then wait 30 seconds then wait for 5 mins then again often works with a shy fox. will84 10
Very good advice there from muddy210, I've got a foxpro and when out also carry a foxcalluk (long black plastic one) and a widgeon whistle like the wam but smaller an only £2 Like muddy said you need to try different ones before now I've seen a fox and tried caller with the foxcalluk caller and it's took no notice and headed off, got the whistle out and it stopped and turned and came to it. The foxpro is a excellent bit of kit, probly the best caller is your hand, you've always got it with you! I'm still trying to get mine to work tho haha Quote Link to post
