Hi Robwelsh.

Generally speaking, yes. But, the police seem, to me, a bit better disposed towards granting an FAC for air rifles than rim/centrefire cartridge rifles. You will have to prove and fulfil the same level of competence in handling, safety and your permission will have to cleared by the police as suitable ground for FAC shooting with regard to boundary distances and likely ranges you'll be shooting to. Plus you will need to show the same level home security requirements for storing your air rifle/s, I.E a steel gunsafe bolted to a supporting wall in your home and preferably out of sight and, you will not be allowed to plink with an FAC air rifle in your back garden as perhaps you did before; (the police will not consider the average size garden as safe for FAC shooting!). Once tuned and licensed, they are regarded as firearms as much as rimfire/centrefire rifles.

Hope this helps but, as an FAC air rifle shooter myself, it's too much of a faff now with the law for any real significance in advantage with higher air/muzzle power. I bag (and miss) just as many vermin with my sub-12ft/lb HW77 and TX200 .22 rifles at long ranges as I do with an FAC HW80.

i shoot with mine in back gardens thats what it was purchased for along with around buildings and noise sensitive areas. having an open ticket solves all those sorts of problems

Paulus when you say 'open ticket' does that mean that you have no restrictions on your licence? does that mean you can own as many different varieties of rifle as you can stuff into your gun cabinets?

I think an open ticket means you don't have to get your land checked before shooting on it
