hyperion 122
I often wonder about a patterdale x whippet,? So do I, so do I............ Having seen my mates 3/4 whip 1/4 JRT's and how good they are I dont reckon you would go far wrong with a one of them either! a whippat? whippatter? would make a handly dog mind, might be a bit feisty though! lifelong cumbrian 1,826
I saw a dvd a while ago with a fella ratting with a pack of pat/whippets shit hot they were aswell. Cant remember what they called him though. Quote Link to post
derbylad1 293
As always, getting a decent pup from any litter is a lottery. Some well bred litters produce good and bad, and sometimes you get poor sire & dam coming together to produce some real crackers. But putting a good bitch & sire together gives you a better chance of getting a good litter. There are some excellent whippets out there and some equally matched terriers, and depending what your ground, quarry and entering is like, then any plummer, patterdale, borders etc etc will and could bring something to your hunting pack table. derbylad1 293
I have a 1st x staffie/whippet. Would i have deliberately bred or gone out to purchase this cross, definitely not. BUT....she is the gamest little dog i have ever had the pleasure to own, would i have her again, without a doubt. The right terrier crossed with the right whippet will give loads of fun. Don't listen to her lads....its a shit dog, and just sits there cowering under a bush. Quote Link to post
hairyface 211
firstly i'd agree with what fireman said.now ive had 3 plummers and on my 2nd whippet, the last plummer is still with me at the age of 13,(to be fair he's a plummer x jrt) and he's been fecking average at bushing/mooching an ratting, not bad at the foxes, albeit he aint seen alot, but his passion was cats, even now he'll burst a gut trying to get to one, never been able to break him to them, 2nd plummer was killed by a bull when ratting one night at 12months old, big strong 15inch dog showing promise, now the first plummer i had was mental, never seen anything bush/mooch like him, phenominal ratter and good on fox when the oppertunity arose, on the go non fecking stop to put it mildly he was hyper/highly strung but a brilliant dog for general mooching/bushing/fuckingabout, so my take on it is this, both the plummer and whippet are very good bushing/mooching so a cross twix the 2 would be as good or better,i dont think they would be any litter wastage as all the offspring should be leggier than the terrier in theory so should still be able to mooch/bush with much success regardless of which way they have thrown. they will be strong sturdy dog with great nose and athletic ability.....but..... i'd imagine they would be no fecking use at all at lamping due to the amount of beagle blood in the plummers make up, and i'd put my wages on the fact even a 1/4 plummer 3/4 whippet will yap when its hot on the heels of any game./ so they would be strickly daytime moochers for me, therefore reducing the need for the 3/4 cross, if i was wanting a small racey 21/22inch lurcher ie,3/4whippet 1/4 terrier it would pick a lakie or beddie or bull, just my opinion lads take care, HF Edited June 28, 2012 by hairyface 2 Quote Link to post
derbylad1 293
yeah agree with that totally. the half might not have the legs for it either, unless is got onto them very early Quote Link to post
