Ok this might sound daft, but was watching a thing about it just now, he found it by leaving bread out and it went mouldy.

So does that mean you can scrape mouldy bread on a cut lol

Or is there more to it than that

wasnt mouldy bread, he had a dish of germs and put a mixture of chemical into it and weeks later was washing up and realised it killed all the germs. only thing was he couldnt remember what he put on it so didn't do anything about it until someone made the same chance discovery some years later. then america joined the war and funded research into mass production of it.

I think it was on QI I heard that people have used penicillin for thousands of years, apparently it would grow on the saddles of horses and people noticed that cuts that rubbed against it healed better (or something like that) and cottoned on to it.
