pianoman 3,587
I've seen kitts bounce violently about in nervous death spasms for what seemed almost a minute, despite being shot clean through the brain. I've shot rabbits straight through the head with .177 FAC and it still didn't guarantee an instantly clean kill. The rabbit moved a little at just the instant of shot fired and the pellet struck either through the orbit of the eyes or into the lobe at the base of the ear. Those sent the animal either screaming into the woods or down holes and a slow death in agony. That's why I feel a lot better about sub .12ft/lb .22 for rabbit/squirrel/rat shooting. Could this be your friend's experience? Simon Edited June 27, 2012 by pianoman 1 Quote Link to post

The one 8,497
Got to be placement theres a lot of area to hit a head bit you have to be precise and just slightly above and behind the eye no where else Quote Link to post
robwelsh 354
I hit a rabbit in the kneck once cos it skipped forward. But I didn't realise I hit it in the neck till I walked up to it..it bowlded over like a headshot, that was in .177 too. Iv been lucky with not having runners. Iv had few squirrels run up a tree an then fall back off tree lol Quote Link to post
Skot Ruthless Teale 1,701
in my opinion. some animals are 'harder' than others. iv shot loads of squirrels in the right spot and they dont always come straight down. with .22 sub 12ftlb.. and .177 sub 12ftlb. there what id call 'hard'. most of the rabbits i shoot and feral pigeons just go straight over. sometimes crows and rats can be 'hard' aswel. i hope you understand what i mean.. Mawders 595
On one of my perms it's mostly squirrels, shoot those hardy b*****ds in the sweet spot and sometimes they are completely motionless but still breathing, If you didn't see the slight movement in the chest you would think its stone dead, they really can be little terminators! robwelsh 354
Agreed, squirrels are hardest to take aim on plus hardest to kill without a doubt Quote Link to post
Probuk 93
Sounds to me like he's trying for the head shot and hitting low....thats the ONLY possible explination unless they got metal plates in there heads. Marty. Quote Link to post

muddy210 34
sounds to me like the rifle is either not powerful enough for the range your using it at or the pellet is not hitting what you are aiming at or your aiming at the wrong point. as said on the first page stop shooting live targets and get it checked out Quote Link to post
