THE GRIFF 8
I currently have a fourtrak and although I love the car, it does everything I need it to, the wife is moaning about the lack of comfort. I got rid of a 05 passat estate to get the fourtrak 18 months ago and after 18 months of in and out with mucky boots i can see where she is coming from in a way as far as it being a day to day family car as well. Ideally I would like to run 2 cars, the fourtrak and a economical run about as well as a family car, but with the price of 2 insurance's, mot's, ect it would work out too expensive as the wife doesn't drive. The only reason I need a 4x4 is to do a bit of lamping and getting up and down farm lanes and accross fields, I rarely do any really bad off roading but need the ground clearance for some bumpy farm tracks. I have been looking at the freelander, they are ok off road for what I need and according to the stats don't seem that bad on juice compared to the fourtrak. They are also reasonably comfy inside and look to be a compromise between a day to day run around and capable of getting around the farms we shoot and ferret. Your thoughts would be appreciated and also any other suggestions. The main things I am looking for is more economical than the fourtrak and more ground clearance than a normal car, 4 wheel drive and a bit more comfy than the fourtrak. neil82 1,080
unless your handy with the spanners and a multi-meter you need to avoid a freelander like a dose of smallpox (the late model version is alledgedly more reliable)electical faults galore, viscous coupling failures, dual mass flywheels that make a clutch swap bloody expensive, i could go on but everyone i know who has ever had one has allways said `lovely to drive but never again`
dymented 2,220
Get a vitara bud Ive had a few cant fault them better than a free lander as the vitara has a low box cheaper to insure reliable and better value

neil82 1,080
get a traders policy drive as many cars as you like problem with that sort of insurance is the excess is usually 2-3 grand, even the limited trader i.e. part time trader policies carry a hefty excess
SportingShooter 0
Plus most traders policies are for just that, connection with the motor trade, not SDP&B.

No good for the likes of you, I don't think they class car theft as part time trading... Oi! I'll have you know the policy says "in connection with the motor trade" doesn't mention how I come about being in possession of the motor in the first place And "Third Party, Fire and Theft" is just a challenge! mines sdp and 500 excess part time trader 1000 a year Who was that with, out of curiosity? insurance factory tradewise Thanks
