lurchers ireland 367
rabbits must not breed in the summer in your neck of the woods, you did well to spot the difference with the lamp between the breeding ones and the ones not breeding Quote Link to post

If you wanna take rabbits at this time of year, then thats up to you. Just less to have around in winter when the dog should be run & tested properly. But i also agree with LI, there are better ways to get the dog fit. Quote Link to post
lurchers ireland 367
no mate your alright just dont lamp in july, killing pregnant rabbits and those feeding young is wrong in my book anyway, but is up to you what you do i dont know you and its nothing personal, i just was suprised them lads were saying well done for the picture, anyone i know would be ashamed of their lives after doing that in the summer, thats just my opinion 1 Quote Link to post
derbylad1 293
There are so many posts about not doing any hunting in summer and me incuded hate doing it. The against opinions are usually, its not ethical to hunt rabbits that are with or carrying young, its usually too hot to run the dogs, the grass is too long and the rabbits are far too easy to catch. As well as, you'll ruin your sport for the winter and its not truly testing your dog. I can imagine i've a good few out...so please feel free to add. But on the "For" side of things....what if your farmer/land owner wants them clearing, you could lose your permission. Also it could be for bringing a pup on, rabbits now breed all year round so it makes no difference if they're in young. You get paid and winter alone isn't enough time to konck the numbers back. Again, there are other reasons why you should go lamping in summer. So to me lamping in summer should be done...only if a must. 1 Quote Link to post
airbourne 128
i agree with u lads about not hunting in the summer it was a ONE OFF vet needed to see her under 12 hour after a good work out , and i no i don't have to explain myself to you, and to say they are easy because of long grass, they were caught on golf course and on freshly cutfields, you carn't see the buggers in the long grass anyway Quote Link to post
