Operator 3
Hi, I took my new CZ455 .17HMR Varmint barrelled rifle out to zero for the first time today. At 100 metres I was shooting 40mm groups. It was a bit windy but I was hitting high and low as well as left and right. I've not shot this calibre before but I can print 3 round groups all touching with my .22 at 60 metres and 25mm groups at 100 with my .308 AI. I assumed it was just down to it being new and needing to run in a bit. When I got home and cleaned it it took the SM11 moderator apart to see how dirty it was and found that the hole in the centre of the baffles was very rough and almost looked like it had been clipped by the round. All of the baffles were the same. My .22 has exactly the same mod on it and doesn't look like that at all. I will try and upload a photo so hopefully someone much wiser than me can let me know if this is normal or if it needs looking at. I'm sure if it really was clipping the mod internally the round would be way off or even blowing the end of the mod off. Any ideas or advice would be most welcome. http://i1200.photobu...go/IMG_2553.jpg http://i1200.photobu...go/IMG_2552.jpg Quote Link to post
tegater 789
Hi pal. Don't worry about it, Have had the same mod on mine for several years, and I stripped mine down after the first shoot as well, just to clean it. I thought they didn't look right either, but they still look the same years later. The bullet is not causing it. Edgar brother assured me it was because it is made of alloy, and the heat from the hmr causes that reaction. I have never had an issue with accuracy as a result of the suppressor, and strip and regrease it regularly with copper grease. If you are new to the hmr, it is more likely you just need to get used to it, and it should group sub 1" at 100 once the barrel settles in. The CZ452 is a good match for the AI in ideal conditions believe it or not, so I would imagine the 455 should do as well Good luck Quote Link to post
Operator 3
Thanks tegater, puts my mind at rest. I didn't have a huge amount of time so I only put 30 or 40 rounds through it. I thought that might be the case but you know what it's like with something new! Hopefully I'll get out again tomorrow and tighten things up a bit. A still day would help! Quote Link to post

No probs, my 452 took at least 100 rounds to settle in, giving it a thorough clean every so many rounds. I think Edgar brothers may do some steel baffles for the SM11 but I never bothered getting any, as the suppressor is cheap enough to replace every 3-4 years if necessary. Quote Link to post
Operator 3
Mine is supposed to be the one for 16" barrels with the first two baffles made of steel. I can't see any difference in the holes/damage and there is no marking on the tube stating which one it is. I won't worry about it, just keep on shooting. Thanks again! Quote Link to post
Operator 3
Looks like there was a problem. Fired about 30 rounds today to continue running in the barrel and accuracy was still a bit hit and miss. When I took the mod off I found that the first two baffles had been damaged badly and pushed in. The remaining just had slight damage around the centre bore hole as yesterday. I will have to contact Edgar Brothers. What is the most likely cause? The only thing I can think is that the alignment between barrel and mod is not correct. I don't want to try my other SM11 because if I damage that I won't have one for my .22, that is still as new and undamaged. I'm hoping it was just a dodgy mod and not the rifle itself. As before any advice is gratefully received. Quote Link to post

Keep updating Quote Link to post

I'll have to see if Edgar Brothers will swap it out, if not I could just replace the screw end and a few baffles. It's pissing me right off, I've been waiting ages to get it now this! Thanks for the advice. Quote Link to post
billybear 32
Hi mate I have the 455 th with heavy barrel and I had the 452 before that. My mod is perfect no marks at all and as for your accuracy issue I had to put about 200 rounds through it before it come good and now getting 1inch groups easily at 100 but what I found is the min I clean it the barrel needs a few rounds through it to get back on track. My 452 was the same but I clean mine after around 200 rounds now then stick a couple through it ready for the next outing. The hmr is an amazing round just get the trigger sorted cos standard set up is awfull you can get the weight of the trigger pull can be reduced a fair bit by the screw on the trigger. Keep at it tho cos you will deep the benefits of the round I love it and my mate as the sako quad and wished he had saved the money and had a 455 lol. Quote Link to post
markha 99
Just ditch it as others have said, from your pics it looks stuffed, get a SAK for your air rifle , I have one on my 455 thumbhole varmint, never bother cleaning it, just shoot sub moa all day long. Great calibre and rifle. Your groups will settle down/shrink if you put some range time in and use good technique for every shot. Have fun. High Teg' sorry I missed you last time round, let me know when your down my way agin and we should catch up. Quote Link to post

Cheers Mark, we were back there yesterday as it happened having a play with some "new" stuff. Thought you had fallen of the edge of the world, I haven't seen you on here for a while, I expect you are pretty busy though. Quote Link to post
Operator 3
It's gone back to EB via the gun shop. They will swap it out as soon as they get them back in stock. I can't wait to get some more rounds through it and see the accuracy tighten up. Quote Link to post
