Madcowz 0
Hi, I am a newbie to ferreting and would like to know how many I should get the first time. I have two jills 'reserved' from a litter which are hopefully being born as we speak, and my original plan was to just have two. I plan to have both jills spayed as I won't want to breed from these two. But as I have a very large court, I was wondering if I should get one or two more. Would they have a better quality of life if I got say three or four? Could I keep say three jills and one hoblet together without any fuss. What do you guys do? Still leaning towards just the two as it is my first time and I want to take things slowly. And if it is anything like our chickens, once you start, you just keep on adding. thanks, /Mad Quote Link to post
Netter 0
I would say that if you had the space, three jills and a vasectomised hob would be a nice little working team, plus if you dont have the jills spayed when you need to replacements, you could breed from your best little worker. gnipper 6,621
I'd say stick with the two mate, you will be able to spend more time with them individually for handling etc making them better pets and then when you have more confidence/experience you can always add one or two more. No point jumping in at the deep end if you don't know if you can swim is there Gnipper Quote Link to post
Ossie 11
start with two... you'll always end up with more later on. it's called "ferret maths". they multiply Quote Link to post
Madcowz 0
Thanks for your replies. I will stick with my original idea of getting two Jills. Want to take this easy and learn properly. Was just wondering if it would be better for the jills to have a hob about. But, judging how my wife feels when I am on holiday, prob best if there were no men about. thanks, /mad Quote Link to post
