airbourne 128
she is three and a half years old 23" tts smooth coat, she has the brains, but can be a bit head strong at times, she will run all night her pray drive is 110%, speed ok but wished she had a little more, brings back to hand but is hard mouthed will retrive most things when shot or caught. got a good nose. i was thinking pure greyhound to try and keep the height and put a bit more speed into the pups ? which most of you are in agreement with Quote Link to post

airbourne 128
There are many variables in breeding Lurchers; what work does the Dam do ? What work does the Sire do ? What work do you want the pups to do ? Do you want to put more speed in the line... or hieght, brains, coat, feet, etc ? Is the bitch REALY worth breeding from ? Can you buy a pup in that will do the same job as what you are hoping to breed ? Have you got homes for any excess pups ? If you have answers to all this and still want to breed, then give great thought about the Sire. Your bitch has FOUR different breeds in her already, so I personaly wouldn't want to add any more. So that would limit you to something with Collie/Whippet/Bull/Greyhound in it, as a Sire. There are some great dogs around with that type of breeding. Just make sure you use a GENUINE dog as the Sire and you won't go far wrong ! Cheers. thanks for you answer and yes i have thought about it hard she is still young i know but she has proved to me that she is worth breeding off at some time in the future if has you say i can find good homes for the pups yes i can find homes for some if not all of them but you never know how many they will have and also finding the right stud to put in to her to produce good offspring, i would not put another breed into her only what in there now thats why i thought pure greyhound like most have surgested. deck 35
dam collie x whippet x grey sire bull x grey what would you put over a bitch out of this breeding ? a 1/2 bred or 3/4 bred collie greyhound Quote Link to post
collie/grey 238
Id use a well bred, well seasoned coursing dog rather than a greyhound, you still have the speed and size along with working ability. 1 Quote Link to post
