what would you put over this bitch

Recommended Posts

Mate, i think the commennts made were fair enough. If you had stated you owned a 5 year old bitch, stated her breeding and mentioned how you work her, what her attributes are, what her short comings are and what you hoped for from the pups you may of got a more detailed reply.........

i agree mate but why don't they ask these questions instead of jumping on the bang wagon, after all if you don't ask you don't get

gis £50

no sorry mate but thanks for asking

nothing, if you dont know what you want from a stud dog without asking on a forum you have no business breeding. there's more than enough shite being bred without you adding to it.

A blanket.

if you know, why ask the question?   true i dont know you.   the fact you are asking a fourm what to put over YOUR bitch, based on the breeds in her make up, a bitch no one has seen working, no o

she is three and a half years old 23" tts smooth coat, she has the brains, but can be a bit head strong at times, she will run all night her pray drive is 110%, speed ok but wished she had a little more, brings back to hand but is hard mouthed will retrive most things when shot or caught. got a good nose.

i was thinking pure greyhound to try and keep the height and put a bit more speed into the pups ? which most of you are in agreement with

if it was me i would be putting her to something of simular breeding as her but with more of the desired attribute you require i/e more whippit or grey in it.

There are many variables in breeding Lurchers; what work does the Dam do ? What work does the Sire do ? What work do you want the pups to do ? Do you want to put more speed in the line... or hieght, brains, coat, feet, etc ? Is the bitch REALY worth breeding from ? Can you buy a pup in that will do the same job as what you are hoping to breed ? Have you got homes for any excess pups ? If you have answers to all this and still want to breed, then give great thought about the Sire. Your bitch has FOUR different breeds in her already, so I personaly wouldn't want to add any more. So that would limit you to something with Collie/Whippet/Bull/Greyhound in it, as a Sire. There are some great dogs around with that type of breeding. Just make sure you use a GENUINE dog as the Sire and you won't go far wrong !

Cheers.

thanks for you answer and yes i have thought about it hard she is still young i know but she has proved to me that she is worth breeding off at some time in the future if has you say i can find good homes for the pups yes i can find homes for some if not all of them but you never know how many they will have :hmm: and also finding the right stud to put in to her to produce good offspring, i would not put another breed into her only what in there now thats why i thought pure greyhound like most have surgested.

what do you think you will be gaining by using a pure greyhound as opposed to another lurcher with the attributes your after, you have to remember by using a pure greyhound you add all the greyhound traites good and bad not just the speed you are after.

a good collie cross of some description will do that and if it was a 3/4 cross it would add the speed your looking for aswell

Putting a pure greyhound to her you will loose all the good points just to gain speed.
