Howdy all, picked up a Rifle again...

Recommended Posts

Howdy all,

A bit of background for those interested rolleyes.gif lol...

My Granddad introduced me to 'shooting' back when I was around 13-14 with a pretty basic .177 air rifle. At the time he owned a nice farm house (no livestock) and a fair bit of land, so he set me away with targets and things and I instantly fell in love with the sport!...Couldn't wait for the weekend - most weekends, to get back out in the Country side and do some 'target practice' however with no scope and a very limited/underpowered rifle after nearly a year of practicing almost every weekend my Granddad was all for 'converting' me to a shot gun user!...a Webley .410 in fact, bolt action - single barreled old skool thing! (as he's always had/used shotguns) this at the time was GREAT! He had bought me a 'cartridge belt' and to put it blunt, I thought I was RAMBO! lol...I progressed on to shooting clays with it (with ease) and a fair bit of game...nearly a couple of years on from that i'd gotten a license & progressed to an over & under 12gauge, took part in a few local shoots & really enjoyed it. However he ended up selling his old farmhouse and retired to a small village bungalow (GUTTED!) and I parted with my 12gauge and never renewed my license frown.gif ...cars, motorbikes & girls then quickly took over my life after that.

More recently, i've hurt myself too many times on crossers/trials bikes, got bored with spending fortunes on cars & now have 2 gorgeous daughters! - "oooh how my life has changed" lol!

Anyways, a good mate called round mine over the weekend an happened to have 2 air rifles in his boot and asked if I was still into shooting and if I fancied joining him for the day! up.gif ...I hadn't picked up a rifle for almost 3-4 years!...I couldn't turn the offer down!...I had a great time using an one! especially with the scope! it was a wholeeeeee different ball game to using a shotgun especially for game as you didn't have to wait forever for things to return after letting of a huge "BANG!" or 2! lol...any how 4 rabbits & 3 pigeons later - i'm 'addicted!!'

Spent the last couple of days hunting around for a half decent local .22 with a scope, with out spending daft money to see if I really did like it as much as I thought, and so the missus wouldn't be too pissed at me spending a fortune on something that in her eyes - 'Kills' lol.

Ended up with a Webley Excel .22 Carbine - Made in Britain, I do believe??...Its got a Simmons Telescopic Sight & a Webley Pro System Silencer, apparently an old but half decent rifle? up.gif / down.gif

Couple of test shots and it was mine for a whopping £80!...seems a very powerful old girl and fairly accurate - only picked it up today though so i've not tried it out properly yet but i've got all the faith in the world that it will drop pigeons, rabbits, squirrels etc no problem!?

Anyway, dead exited to get back into it, best few quid i've spent for a while I hope!

Thanks for reading, if you still are, lol!

Take care,
