Flow 18
What calibre and why, mainly for hunting rabbits. I'm having a tough time deciding. Thanks. Quote Link to post
Skot Ruthless Teale 1,701
calibre makes no difference if the pellet hits the right place. .177 has flatter trajectory so at longer ranges you dont have to hold over as much. i was always a .22 man myself but then i took a chance with a .177 and theres no going back for me now. thats just my choice and oppinion though. good luck and i hope you make the right choice and dont end up regretting it lol. Daz 7 563
.22 Cal My baby is as that is all i shot in Springers for 30+ years but Have a Rapid in .177 as it's My first PCP, And wanted to see the Difference, Both Cals kill as long has you place shot's in the Kill zones. Short to Medium Range for My Prosport, And Medium to long range for the YODA GUN. atvb Daz 7 Quote Link to post
Flow 18
Do you hunt with .177 Skot? Have you found you have more un-clean kills than .22 if so? Edited June 20, 2012 by Flow Quote Link to post
Skot Ruthless Teale 1,701
I do hunt with it yes . Like i said if you put the pellet in the right spot everything goes straight down instantly most of the time. with a .22 you have a bit more leeway to miss the killzone bexause of the extra damage they cause. But im not perfect so a couple of shot have strayed off a bit. like a squirel i shot yesterday.. i hit it side on accross its throat, like i has 'slit' its throat.. it dropped straight away and was tumbling around so i quickly stood on it reloaded and put another one into its brain. theres a pic in the other thread 'washing and lubing pellets' Quote Link to post
hugo1 31
i am 22 man its harder to shoot than 177 but 22 is a lot better in the field for heart and lung shots 1 Quote Link to post
Skot Ruthless Teale 1,701
If i wanted a rifle just for rats an pigeons in buildings at close range id go .22 but like i said calibre makes no difference if the pellet hits the right spot Quote Link to post
zini 1,939
If the rifle is going to be used for HFT as well as hunting then I would suggest .177 mate, but if its solely going to be used for hunting and you are happy with combo calibration and have a LRF then my personal preference is .22. Both kill though if the shot placement is correct, the .22 just causes much more damage especially in terms of exit wound and initial kinetic shock. Si. Quote Link to post
