brian is my vet all these years and i know he has taken straws of labs and still has a few for when the lads are ready to use them plus he does it for greyhounds as well

my dog is well bred no probs but only young dog might not be good enough to breed of until tested proper.

allways another iron in the fire mate as us blacksmiths say

sorry to go off topic a wee bit but i have no experience of straws, how high is the success rate? do they need to be used by a vet if so can any vet use them or indeed fill them?

it is usually quite successful but not every vet can do it

each sperm sample taken from the dog can be split up so u cud maybe get 2 ,3 or 4 matings from this

hench if each mating is 500 instead go for straws and its multiplyed

thats why top honcho was producing pups long after he died

but if the bitch wont stand this is best option

gud luck

Barry I don't thk there any where in ire takes straws and keeps them I know the top stud farms for greyhounds does them. We got lucas straws done in cambridge in vrpc {veterinary reproduction centre} a germam woman runs unreal place big labarotary she had are appoiintment first thing in morn took first lot sperm put it under micro scope seperated dead sperm from good we got 8 straws outa that lot. Took nxt lot in afternoon got another 8 straws she freezes them till use. When lads used them they took bitch she blood tested her told when to bring her back the woman then inserts straw into bitch any bitch we done she gves them 2 straws results some good litters. My opinion straws need to be done by someone who specialises in them. As for wooley dogs barney has straws £1000 a go plus vet bill. The german woman we use charges £150 that includes blood test saved lot lads coming to ire for mating.
