Advice required regarding my Finder range

Recommended Posts

Guys,

I am new to all this Ferreting business and would appreciate some advice from the many experts on this group with regards to my finder.

I have a 15ft Mk1 Finder (has markings up to 15ft) and, I think a 15ft collar (takes two R13 batteries).

The trouble is that the clicking radiation sound :-) stops at or around 8-10 feet. I have put what I think are new batteries into the collar and no change (batteries are showing 2.71v). And the finder box battery is showing 7.85V not far off the 9v it should be.

The Finder board says:

DE 903

Mk7

Serial No. A1157

Any ideas? Apart from brand new batteries and test again?

thanks,

Completely down to your batteries.

A brand new 9V battery will measure near to 9.5V and the two batteries in your collar should be 1.55V each giving a total of 3.1V.

(7.85 / 9.5) * (2.72 / 3.1) * 15 = 10.87

Hope this makes sense.

You can buy batteries for a mk1 collar from Deben direct.

http://www.romancart.com/cart.asp?storeid=...itemcode=BA7828

£12.95 for 10, vat & p&p included.

Now it says V13GS/V357/SR44 Batteries but I bought some SR44 batteries from a shop and they were the wrong physical size.

I think for me, I will play it safe to start with and just buy from Deben.

At the risk of sounding like a know all tosser..........Don't rely too heavily on the machine anyway.Use it as a last resort.Hands on experience of your ferrets and rabbits/field craft will boost your confidence so much more than mechanical devices.Good luck!!! :) Mooster
