Hi all.

I`ve been into freshwater fishing all my life, but now that i live on the Essex coast, ive just got a Sea kayak. I was thinking about using it for Bass spinning. Is there anyone on here who is doing this at the moment? Just got to wait for this weather to sort itself out now. I will be using my pike spinning rod to start with, this is 9ft so i`m hoping this will be ok. I was hoping some of you could give me some tips on lures, at the moment i have some jellies, Dexter Wedges, and a collection of pike spinners, plugs and surface lures. Any pointers would be welcomed. ATB. Neil.

Its a two man boat, so was advised it would be big enough for me, my girlfriend and my 6 year old daughter, and still be small enough for me to be able to handle on my own while fishing, only been out on it the once so far with my family, and its good fun. Can`t wait to get fishing now. ATB. Neil.

Cheers mate, that would be a great help, its hard when your not sure where to start. I was wondering if its possible to float fish for bass off the kayak, in a similar way to how you would do for pike in freshwater? Also thought it would be an idea to try trolling with the lures to try to locate some local hotspots, Neil.

Neil, never had a kayak in my life (but had plenty of boats big and small), in my opiion a 9ft rod will be at best a pain in the arse, first time the line wraps round the tip or you have to re thead the lie through the rings etc you will see what I mean. If it was me go for a cheap 6 ft or proper kayak rod which I think are around 4ft, it will be a lot easier to handle / set up / balance when your changing lure or hopefully unhooking fish. Gaz.

To be honest mate, thats why i put in the fact that i would be using a 9ft rod, as i was also thinking that it might be a bit too long and i was hoping someone would notice this. Will still give it a go though because its a favourite of mine, but i know i will probably end up getting something shorter :D
