evening all

just getting into staiking and and was wondering

what type of deer calls mojority of you use (if any)

a have just purchased a buttolo call but not haveing much sucess

and was willing to have a coulpe,,to cover most commom breeds

what would you recommend if any

probably your not having much success using the buttolo call as at this time of year it will only scare the bucks away its generally used during the rut to attract a roaming buck in were it imitates a doe in season , and only to be used rarely as the the opposite effect can be obtained if used over a longer time period.

 

Less frequency of use is the key to success.

There is a right time to call and like Stu said, less is better.

I used to know a guy who used a piece of broad leaf grass with a split down it and was very talented in its use I might add.

 

Lesser mortals like myself though could not master the art and have to rely on the like of Butaloe calls although I have used in the past to good effect the Faulhaber Fiep call and I have just sent away for the dual Butaloe caller thats advertised in the Bushware Cat that comprises of a trumpet on one and a pipe reed on the other the dual set is just under £15plus postage but its supposed to take your calling up a knotch so watch this space in the coming weeks from 24th july onwards to 7th August in which the rut normally takes place (usually) but no guarantee given as this can be effected by many factors one large factor hot humid conditions and thunderstorms can and does bring the doe into season early.

yes i have read that the rut is comeing up in a fue weeks

i called a roe in, the other eveing within to about 40yrds

just experimenting realy but i was under the inpression that bucks

had points (horns) and i could not see any is this possible to call a doe in?

and if so there not in season yet right? and no i coulding see the sausage and mash lol

You obviously when using the call imitated a fawn in distress and the doe came running to investigate.

grass is great it works well just dont over do the perping and peepin eh its a skill with grass,and its hands on with nature,good to learn,its a great fox call too.

if you get into calls try that sqeeky toy reed,kids hide your toys lol
