Busy day shooting.. but a new permission out of it!

Recommended Posts

Hello all,

Ive had a busy day out shooting, once this morning in somerset 0600 - 1030 then drove 4 hours up to the midlands to collect my S10 and got offered a new permission :thumbs:

So this morning i ended up going rabbiting with a farmer down in the glorious somerset countryside..this was totally improptue and i was basically out in my glad rags shooting :icon_redface:

I didnt bring a stitch of camo down with me! but as i never turn down an oppertunity i went with his .17hmr and him fully geared up shooting his .22LR ..

All i can say about that is '.17hmr are great for clearing fields of rabbits! ... once you fire one shot they all bugger off and are not to be seen for the rest of the morning' :hunter:

I ended up caked in mud with only a 6 rabbit bag to show for it, all at distances i could have shot with my .177 & not scared the rest of the field while i was at it! nevermind it was still fun!

It was then a speedy trip up the country to make it to A&M Custom Gunsmiths before closing time, I needed to pick the S10 im refurbing up after it went to be checked for 'tampering' and im glad it did, when I got to A&M Adi told me it was putting out 16ftlbs and someone had put a FAC spring into it.. badly! i had a suspision it was shooting over thats why i took it in

It went in for a Service, Regulator power set, Screw cut on the barrel (so i can fit a silencer and to remove some damage) and i also wanted an X3 silencer.

The before and after shot

Got there in plenty of time, the gun ready and waiting all the work done ..but .. no x3 silencers! :cray:they are no longer to be made..Gutted....Then Adi brought music to my ears 'We dont have any X3's left so it will have to be a Marksman, only one left' :icon_eek:

So now i have the new Marksman silencer :boogy: :boogy: :boogy: left there a very happy boy!

The top one is the X3 and the bottom the new Marksman - the Marksamn is fantastic! better than the X3

Got to my folks where we are staying the night and first thing my dad says when he opens the door .. No it wasnt 'hello son' it was 'the boss at work wants you to go and shoot the pigeons'

Result!

So off i went to check it out, its an industrial permission on the edge of town, they are having problems with the pigeons nesting in the overhead crane runners and causing the usual pigeon problems.

With the sky grey and cloudy i figured i didnt have long before the heavens opened, I still didnt have any camo gear so i thought my chances of shooting anything would be slim! but undeterred i grabbed the S10 and headed off to see what i could do, got there and it was already spitting so I did a quick zero in the yard at approx 30yrds ish (forgot the rangefinder ) and off i went ...

I managed an hour before the heavens opened and i had to make a dash for the car.. but not empty handed :boogy::thumbs: and there seems to be plenty more where they came from!

Turned out to be a good day after all!

At the minute im using accupels Si, they shoot well tight groups at 30yrd, I havent done any thorough testing though & im going to give the H&N FTT i won at the meet a try

The stock i still have hours of sanding, im going to stain it, then oil and seal it - there will not be any crazy camo dips on this one.

I also have to reblue the barrel, bolt plate and magazine housing - its a project gun but i am very happy that it shoots so well!

The marksman silencer is brilliant, whisper quiet and it dosnt upset the balance of the gun - the S10 is going to be my walking gun, no Bi-pods or heavy accessories

but unfortunatly i have never heard a Hogun decimeter being fired so i cant compare the two, i can say it blows my HW silencer out of the water though!
