vermin catcher 219
Just found my Jill dead in her hutch she's left me 8 kits to look after iv got some beaphar kitten formular and I'm feeding them every 2 hours they inside on a heat matt there 3 weeks old any advice would be great Mate i replied to a guy with the same problem as yours a few weeks back here on the forum .Check out "ferret help desperate"on the thread here.I hand reared 10 kits a few weeks back and got them all through no bother. If you have got them up to the 3 week mark you are flying mate as you can start weaning them right away.I gave mine minced beef, chicken or rabbit mixed with the Beaphar kitten milk mate to get them going. All i done was cut rabbit meat off the bone put it in a clear bag bashed it to oblivion and then mixed in some of the kitten milk to form a gloupy porrage type consistancy.Same goes with any meat you use just make sure you mix it with the kitten milk you have been using and they should be fine. One big thing not to miss is always make sure you stimulate them to go to the toilet after you feed them.If you dont do this they will soon have bellys that are bloated and badly extended.Baby wipes are best just rub the wipe genty over its bits and within a few seconds it will get rid of its 1's and 2's.As stated mate ive explained it all in a bit more detail in the other topic "ferret help desperate" so if you find that thread anything you need to know is on there.Failing that dont be afraid to contact me on here and ill do my best to help. Its good to put that bit of work in and get them all through but by fook its hard! GOOD LUCK MATE! 1 Quote Link to post

A simple rule of thumb Andy is, if they are all sleeping soundly after eating from the dish they are getting enough. If you have some crying and running about all over the place they may well still need a bottle or two for a few more days.At 3 weeks there should be no problem with them learning to lap from a bowl but they will climb all over the food and each other and generally get covered in it .So if you have any jills with no kits of her own just put her in with them between meals and she will do the hard work of cleaning them for you.Just be carefull as if they constantly get covered in the kitten milk (as ive found out before) they can loose some hair, although it will grow back.Trust me on this one mate, if you dont clean them youll end up with a litter of ferrets that resemble Dr Evil's cat from the Austin Powers movie .I also weaned mine on small pouches of kitten food which has a jelly substance which was easy to mash and easy for them to swallow. The 10 i hand reared a few weeks back loved bashed up bunnie in a bag mixed with the milk as i told you so if you have a feezer full of rabbit so much the better. Best of luck Quote Link to post
