Recommended Posts

for months i have been having a problem with a mouse nicking bird feed out of my shed ive tried everything to get rid of it humainly as my wife thinks its cute but it crossed the line when i found it had got to the ferret food bag so for the last week ive cleaned the shed up and been putting traps down with no luck untill two nights ago when i checked the ferrets where ok before i went to bed and i got the little twat yeah .

so i set up the traps again just in case when i caught a second one but this mouse had no tail (strange)

so ive set them up again tonight to see if i get anymore.

i know its sad getting excited over two little mice but these have been pi**ing me off for months .

Now then Chip, you take no notice of that Mole Trapper. He'd being horrid. (Though, looking at that thing with the bells on, I think he could be right! Sniggers into his hand!)

Those are House Mice, obviously, and adults at that. So the chances are there'll be more yet to come. But, if ye've been setting those traps for about five days and having no luck, I wonder if a little 'insider information' might not help ye out a bit here?

To make this easiest, I'll just explain what I'd do in your apparrant situation. You can then compare notes and see how ye come off. K?

For a start, if I were using naked traps (I use special little boxes myself. Mice can't resist small holes ~ I'll leave it there. I'm not taking that any further!) I'd ensure they were placed flush up against a vertical surface. I'e. Against the wall with the treadle facing it.

I'd use crunchy peanut butter for bait. I like to fill that little bait pot. And I'd want a trap for at least every six foot of wall. I'd set them. Go about my business and then return for a look at them as often as possible. None of this waiting till morning stuff. If I was on site, I'd look every hour or so that I was up. That way I'd think nothing of mopping up eight mice from two traps in eight hours. A trap fired onto a mouse will never catch the next bugger till it's been emptied and re set. Why allow a mouse to decommission a whole trap for a whole night? ;)

See what ye think of my musings and sort anything that needs it. Then set to and wipe the little b*stards out!

Then get ye " Ferret Food " in mouse proof containers. At least ye'll never trap a wild Polecat coming after that stuff!

It was either 12 or 16 I think that I caught in one trap in 2 days about 10 years ago on top of a 6 ft wall which the mice were running up and down to get to the pheasant feed, I soaked the pellets in water till they made a paste and formed it round the bait spike on a little nipper. I got 2 at one time too ;) I was working away and kept hearing it go off :D

There will be more yet mate keep it up.
