hw97kt or tx200

Recommended Posts

which one should i pick, it will be my first decent air rifle and it will be brand new, done loads of research on the wiehrauch but not the air arms as im swaying more to the hw, can any of you please give the pros and cons on each of these rifles as they seem similar, or will it come down to personal preference. i have shot the hw my friend has one but its on an fac i found it heavy to lug about but nicely balanced when shooting with it and very accurate?

thanks in advance for replies

I recently bought an immaculate TX200 that was only 7 months old and the package saved me close to £200 on the new price, so don't dismiss secondhand entirely. I had tried both and really could not decide which was better so in the end I bought what was available at the time. Even now I think I would have been just as happy with the HW had one been offered to me. As Rob says, it is important to try both before deciding and if your gun shop doesn't have the facility, maybe there is someone on here who is close by will let you - if near me you would be welcome to pop over.

I have a HW97K and my brother has a TX200 Mk3, I prefer the HW97K. He said if he were to buy another gun that's what he would get too.

I tried the KT at the shop yesterday and personally thought is was horrible to hold. Being ambidextrous the grip didn't feel good at all, almost too straight (hold one and you will see what I mean) and instead of checkering it has some nasty cheap looking (to me anyway) stippling.

The full length TX is quite barrel heavy (although the carbine isn't) I personally don't like the bear trap ratchet, it looks like a bit of an after thought, and the breach is quite small and fiddly.

I would say they shoot as well as each other, only the HW97K is better balanced.

The Pro Sport on the other hand....

Thanks for all the replies lads but fancy throwing a third air gun in to the equation lol it's hard to choose like I have said I've held the hw97k but not the kt and haven't held the tx at all so I need to get to my local gunshop and have a play with both or three? I would imagine that Tony's camo is the only option as they would most likely hold stock of the guns or if any local ( north wales ) lads know of anywhere else I would appreciate the info

Yeah, I didn't like the KT either, a shame as it is a nice looking rifle. The 95K is better balanced than my TX200, I have to admit that I prefer it than mine :(

The pro sport is a damn fine rifle and the same price as the 97KT, I know which I'd buy.

generally people's view are that the tx200 is better out of the box but the hw97 is better after tuning.

in my view they have certain differences that may not effect you: the tx has a ball underlever catch, hw has a push button. txhc has a threaded barrel for any 1/2inche unf male silencer, hw has integrated silencer. hw has the barrel welded in place, tx is loctited (only worth considering if you ever wish to swap the barrels. hw has a central pellet loading port (easier for ambidextrous use) tx has an off set loading port (easier for dedicated hand). hw doesnt have anti bear trap, tx has one ( it can be disengaged as makes a clicking sound) the transfer port in the hw is off set, tx is central (some argue this increases efficiency). tx has derelin guides on the piston (smother cocking cycle) hw does not although after tuning is jst as smooth. the trigger is identical, as the tx is a copy of the reckord trigger (no suprise as it is the best springer trigger, bar none). the stock on the tx in my opinion is better balanced, but many will argue otherwise.

as you can see there are many small differences in the rifles personally i stick by my tx200 but they are both superb rifles and great investments!
