The new kennel/shed and run..

Recommended Posts

Would agree with some of the positive critisism, i think on winter nights when its darka nd pissing it down you would wish there was a door to enter the pen, as moonlighter said, crawling through a flap after clearing up piss and shit wouldn't be pleasant. Also you need to have easy access to be able to properly clean the kennels, also if you don't life the wood it will rot and you wont be able to adequatly wash the runs out as water will hit the wood and run back into the run........

why the feck do you need them 7'6 high,,,,,lol    fella your mad not putting a front door on them

Great job mate ! Just one observation; you should have a gap between the bottom of the wood and the flagstones, for washing out and to stop the water getting on the wood and rotting it.   Cheers.

Well as some of you may know im getting my first lurcher on Friday..the only rule by the misses was it stays outside (2bedroom house 2 terriers and a 6month old .. no room for another dog haha) .. wel

Yeah you clearly have put the effort and graft in, design is a bit iffy..

I would consider some alterations fella less hassle, cost and frustration in the long run.

A course of bricks or breeze bloccks would give you the extra head room, save your wood rotten and make claning easier JMHO.

My ferret courts bigger than that mate, it's going to be a right pig to clean out too. My runs are 8x6, 6x6 and 6x4 all 7'6 high with a roof on, also have concrete runs as the paving slabs stink in the summer.

I also have galvanised run sections and the side of the shed is covered in galvanised steel sheet to stop the dogs biting the wood etc, makes washing down much easier too, plus the piss can't soak into anything and start to smell.

I did not realise they was no door too the pen.. ..you 100% need a door feck crawling through the flap in pee and shite to clean it out.. :icon_eek: ..just pull the front back of and make a door in one side pretty easy to do,,

Fair play go the Graft and effort you've put in but as said I would make a few amendments.

This is mine below and it cost me 400 notes and I still aren't 100% happy with it and plan to make a few amendments when I've moved house next month...

I want to raise it all round on 2/3 breeze blocks and bolt it to them to add stability, get the wood off the floor and to make it tall enough to stand up inside and then put drainage in.

I want to replace the mesh.

I want to put a 6" board across the bottom of the door flap to keep the bedding in better and put a door flap on to keep any bad weather and draft out.

And I want to put galv chew strips all around the kennel entrance where the dogs have eaten it :(

All the best.

That's a good plan you have for the future Gaz..especialy the tin plateing around the kennel door and maybe the frame work on the front..i have seen a dog destroy the frame work on a thundery day..or insted of plateing the frame work put the weld mesh on the inside.. :victory:

i arent being funny pal, but that run is the run id give for a ferret not a lurcher :hmm:

also that will be stinking after the dogs had a few pisses in it, and the shits diluted with the water and soaked in :icon_eek:

on the up side it has roof, so the lurcher cnt stretch its legs and have a jump.. :icon_redface:
