Good point:  dangerous to allow dogs to run in uncut hay or grass fields at this time of year. Grass seeds in eyes, ears or noses, or between toes, can cause big problems.

How is it dangerous to the point of a dog not aloud a run around in long grass every aspect of Lurcher work is dangerous to a degree. If we had that approach they would never leave there kennels.

I think the op was getting at, just remember to check dogs more for the seeds. Mainly there eyes lol

It's only in the middle of summer that grass seeds are a problem: when the grass is actually producing seeds. I thought that most people only hunt/course in the autumn and winter, but obviously I'm wrong.:tongue2:

I doubt the hunting factor plays a part in it for most of us,the dogs come across long grass and seeds in their daily exercise, its usually that or the dogs will only see tarmac.Im sure you exercise your mutts where the grass and seeds abound at certain times of year, what precautions do you take?and look out for?.

Even if people only hunt course in winter in some places there no avoiding grass fields unless you wanna keep dog on lead for 4 months or run around a park. Dog tuned to hunt don't find that stimulating at all mine in the park will lie down to say why the feck you brought me here haha lol
