Hi i own a whippet x collie deerhound greyhound bitch she a year old ans have just been given her sister my dog works great and shows real intreast but the new one is very much like a pup the way it moves, she has been kenneled up with other dogs but dont think she been shown any work. so question is do you think she will overcome this and be a similar worker to her sister or is it too late

no mate-you just got to put the time into her-first build a bond so that she trusts you-then work on retrieving and showing her bits of game,she will learn from the other bitch-just be patient and make the sessions fun.atb bob

Should be ok mate I don't show my dogs anything till there 11-12 month she's still a pup mate

i dont think it is to late i am going to enter my pup when she is ready that wont be under 12 months but if she is slow to mature could be two wont be putting an age on it. have you ever heard of a dog getting rewend by being entered to late

hello mate, dont worry about the dog its still a pup. all litter mates mature at different stages some earlier than others. you could be right your pup might of been socialised more than the new one. im having the same problem myself at moment just bought a ten month old dog pup, went out last week with a pal who has its sister and she is much more tuned in than mine, but this fella has done a lot more with his than mines previous owner. however, i know that if i, and yourself, put the time in they will come on,catch up and maybe even end up better. dont be put off mate just put the effort and time in , it will come right.Good luck

It's the body as well as the mind that suffers, gets retarded, if a pup is just left in a kennel whilst its growing up. If it doesn't get the right sort of and amount of exercise, playing, handling, it will be months behind your pup. So you need to treat her accordingly: treat her as though she is much younger than she really is: that goes for exercise as well as training. Don't be surprised if she acts scared of things that your pup takes for granted, though hopefully the new one will follow the example of the other.

She ain't scared from things however she is a naturally shy pup my brother never done much in terms of showing anything I took her on for a few months broke her to sheep cattle ferrets all that sort of stuff she had started usin her nose still very puppy like, I parted with her as I have my own pup, work an didn't have the time for two as she was bought for my brother after my mum passed away I did show the man where she was at So no the pup has t jus sat in a kennel for a year an not seen a field

John didnt say dog was stuck in a kennel for a year with no work sorry if you read it wrong mate am sure she going yo settle in just great just a pity it no stopped raining so i can start to train her to the standard i like.

No no mate jus when folk were saying she could have been left in for a year that's why a says ad take u the walk afore making ur mind up she has started using her nose I totally agree with the puppy legs which we spoke about an agreed with the rabbit ground u have she would come on I wouldn't lie just to get rid of a dog I think the wee bitch has something to be a decent rabbit dog she's total stock broke mate, u jus need to provide the chances

just a wee update on fern my new addittion that i got back in june well had her out a few times to start with she would run along sinde the rabbits not knowing what to do but now she has picked it up there is no stopping her, out today with the ferrets and both dogs and couldnt be arsed putting nets down and got 11 rabbits and fern got 7 of these, well chuffed with her and my mates all after a pup from her if i ever breed her but its way too soon for that i will work them this season and next season before i make up my mind on what dog has the best in her jazz my first dog has the brains and a better turn on her .

If they are only a year old, your own dog will still be a pup and a "learner" as far as work goes ! So it's litter sister will not be far behind ! Give it a go mate; but working two young dogs together will be a handfull !!
