baikal auto cracked fore end /marks in barrel?

Recommended Posts

heres the story i have just bought a baikal 12g auto 31/2 inch for little more than a song it was very cheap and in great condition one of the only things i can see is that the foerend is split on the end where it meets the barrel it isnt bad and looks like it has been glued just wondered if this would cause a problem with heavy loads the only other thing i noticed is there is two marks in the bore at first i thought it was pitting but the are symetrical and perfectly square to where the barrel has the tube mounted to it to slide over action sorry for the terrible description but i am fairly new to autos i just wondered if any one has came across this before or should i get it honed out they are fairly small but just dont wont to ruin a nice shooter any advice would be great cheers

The recoil on an auto is drastically reduced by the gas operated action. However, the largest loads will still send out significant felt recoil.

Depending on how bad the split in the forend is, it may split again, it may not. Its a wait and see situation unless you can take it to a reputable gunsmith.

The two symmetrical holes in the barrel are the gas ports where gas escapes behind the shot and cycles the action. Nothing to worry about there.
