tod 3
depends on were the cut is and how bad it is.my lurcher had a slice across the top of the stopper and know matter what i done and how long i left it for it would always open back up because the scar tissue isnt as strong.ended up getting it cut off Quote Link to post
NIGHTSHADOW 3
Hi, try a saddlers or horse supplier. They should have elasticated bandages, come in all sizes & colours. They wrap round & stick so you can still take your dog out & it can run with it on. Some people use them all the time as prevention. I'll be doing this this season Good Luck N.S Quote Link to post

skycat 6,173
Can you show us a pic of the stopper? If the stopper was nearly sliced off with the cut underneath the stopper then it'll open up again and again as the scar tissue won't be strong enough to take the strain: if you find a pic of a dog running you'll see what I mean: when they put their front feet down at speed that stoper takes a huge amount of strain. I've had to take one of my dog's stoppers right off as the same thing kept happening: now I tape a small piece of sponge over where the stoper used to be to protect the leg when I'm working her. Guest joe ox
I had the same problem with a dog i owned 1s. I taped the stoper up everytime i ran her with the white tape nurses use to keep bandages in place no problems with it opening up after that. Quote Link to post

Where did you get the stopper protectors from Inan? Do they stay put or slide around? I use the inner tube from a bicycle for my dog. You can get different diameters to suit & they don't slip, but I wonder if any of these types of protection slow the dog down? What do ye think? Got the protectors from the Grey hound shop in Chiswick ,London ,I would imagine they are on the net,Jim Ford ran a good bitch,[Elsie,I beleive] in a Forley cup wearing them ,she got into the finals ,so dont think they affect the dogs running at all.
