received confirmation of new ferreting permission yesterday of ALL council land around our village,including highways and byways and ANOTHER gaming permit was in the envelope. this is the third one i have received in a few months. though happy to get the land it seems that the gaming laws are really tightening up and police are getting more on the ball. just have to remember to take the right one to the right place lol.

the community police officer is on a cull of poachers at the minute - not so much for the rabbits but there is alot of roe deer going missing from local woods and the farmer aint happy. new signs are going up in the local area with instant fines of up to £4,000 for being caught with ANY game in their possession for any poacher caught on their land.

i know people have gone without permission for many a year but its a shame when the 'hunting' side of this sport is under threat but all i will say to finish

used to always buy a dog licence and a game licence

because they always used to charge you with not having either

dont know why you need a gaming permit to take rabbit

and its a load of bollocks a good poacher does'nt get caught

some nosey fcuker reported me for walking around a old football field with 3 terriers cause they had read that you can't WORK 3 terriers at any one time beat that

Yes, nosey and usually ignorant or ill informed......... 'I've just seen a man with terriers/lurchers, so he's quite obviously poaching'.

 

I'd seriously doubt the instant fine, there's relatively few 'crimes' that police have the power to do this for. It's more likely an attempt to frighten people off. I recently saw a sign on the edge of a wood, warning that cctv is in operation as a measure to stop poaching - The landowner didn't have a clue to who put it up or why, but suspected a local animal group, or busybody.

Are Rabbits not classed as Vermin, therefore they are not game,

Pre ban I used to walk up the road back to my village carrying a Hare,

have ferreted over 40 years, and lamped, snared and longnetted.

Agree with you on the game thing, and I think what andy probably means is that he got written permission from the council, and good on him . With the police being so keen up there, he's bound to be quizzed at some point, so better to produce a permission letter than have the police making phone calls that probably wouldn't be appreciated.

what the odd lot do is charge you with

"going in pursuit of game (no matter what your after)

and if your were you should'nt be your bollocks'ed

cause your in the wrong anyway

 

we used to always get a dog & game licence

the police would always charge you for having neither

the look on their faces when you produced them in court
