Twiddling my thumbs waiting for the new river season

Recommended Posts

Since the end of both the ferreting season and the river close season I have been catching up with all that DIY that gets put to one side. However, this last week I had my first go at putting together a website for our local club. Would like some opinions on what may be useful to change or include:

Really looking forward to the new season as I've just purchased an Okuma Sheffield Centrepin for trotting the rivers for chub, roach and dace.

Although having looked at the forecast for Friday the start of the season may be a bit of a washout down here in the Southwest.

Anyone else looking forward to the start of the river season and what are your goals for this year?

Best wishes and tight lines

Chris

The site look's good chris, might be good to do a rig section, bait section, tackle section it really help's newcomer's, some newcomer's don't like asking, maybe a forum for club member's or open forum, also match result's and tactic's, just idea's, so good luck with the site mate.

i bought a Fox Warrior 12ft barbel rod today so im looking forward to trialling it. i had nine in one night last season :D

That sound's like a great night's fishing that mate, i have never had a barbel myself, supposed to be great fighter's, you will have to put me wise where you go mate, not sure if there are any barbel river's local to liverpool, it's something i have never fished for, anyway look forward to hear about you christening that rod, good luck mate.

I can't wait to get going but it looks like it is going to chuck it down all day Friday here. I will be sticking to the tributaries & side streams for the first few weeks 'til the main river quietens down a bit.

didnt fish last season-missis keeps having babies-would like to beat my old pb on the wye and catch a barbel over 16lb.will wait a month after the season starts and then go have a look-wouldnt mind catching a chub over the 6lb 7oz mark ether.atb bob

That's some size barbel that mate, must of give some fight, or do you find that a smaller fish give's a better fight,i have had better fight's from say 2lb-3lb trout than a 6lb trout, is it like that from barbel, i don't mean the length of the fight, i mean the actual pulling and twisting and run's from the fish, sometime's i find they can just use there weight against you and not so many run's, or is it the best fight from a fish ever.

I have heard that once they get over 10 lb they still have the power put not the speed. I have had a few in the 8 - 10lb and they pull your arm off. I hopefully will find out for myself this season going to spend all my fishing time on the mid severn, some big fish in there and plenty of perch and roach up to 1 - 1/12 lb to keep my lad keen on his quiver tip.

Last season I wanted my first 20lb pike out of the R.Soar. Did that. Got a 32 Pounder!!!!!!

This season I am looking for a 5lb + chub. They are in there. PB is 4lb 15 oz!

A lot of people would of called that a five, good on you mate, no good lying to yourself, that 5lber could be your next cast, hope it is, good luck.
