An Introdution to moleing for Air Gunner's.

Hello Chap's & Ladie's, Im Marty or Martin Perzylo as Im better known.

Iv been Hunting sinse I was a young Lad,.

I got into hunting when my step farther brought home my first Lurcher dog, that I called Ben, I was about 11 year's old. Soon after I had 4 dog's & my hunting day's had well and truley got underway. I got into air gunning when i was about 17 and i bought my first rifle, a .22 Webly Vulcan, but moving around from job to job & town to city alway's forced reluctant sale's of my riflle's.

Soon I setteled down in my Home Town...Barrow In Furness.. and got back into my dog's & hunting & showing, ..mainly poaching when it came to hunting with the dog's I add as most Farmer's are reluctant to allow dog's on their land.

I think it was around the late 90's when Blair began the bann on hunting with hound's & dog's that put me right off the dog scean, a life id gone by for alot of year's was now being taken away from me & slowly but Very reluctantly i moved away from the dog's, In my eye's it wasnt worth the bother from the law that was already hard on my case for poaching, But to this day i still ware my dog's on my heart..so to speak..I have one of my last dog's & his daughter tatood on my chest..Duke and Tes.

Let's rewind........................At the age of 6 7 8 I lived in A small town called Ulverston in south cumbria where I spent most of my time on Draggley Beck tickling small brown trout and eel's & wandering around the field's collecting bird's egg's from nest's that id spotted earlyer on in the coder month's when leave's where few on the hedge's and tree's.

I was a bit of a loaner as a child & I still am to a dergee...I alway's kept myself to myself as it was the best way to be and to this day I thnk it still is,So I spent much of the time on my own doing my own thing.

I remember day's when my mother would say.."Where going to your Nannas tomorow"!.... So the evening before i would get my egging bag& wellington boot's ready for the off, stright after breakfast.!! No chance was i going traipsing through to Barrow In Furness to sit there listning to an old load of mumble jumble that i didnt care a toss about.

Morning would come.....Hand's of cox on sox hahaha...as the saying goes from my favourate all time film Kes. Id run down stair's wellies still hiding under the bed..Grab the milk off the door step and into to box of weetabix, open milk, cream off top of milk on weetabix, and id wolf it all down...back upstair's, wellies on, grab egging bag and charge down staire's & out the front door, down the garden path like a lunatic.....past the witche's house and over the ford on Draggly beck & Into a world of adventure...My Aventure.!!

The old man

On day's where id be out having my own little adventure i often saw an old man with an old canve's bag flicking a knife in his hand as i walked from field to field & lane into lane looking for thing's to get upto & egg's to find, he wore a flat cap & a long old coat with a belt fasten around his waist. I somtime saw him down on his nee's in the field's but I was alway's to buisy to realy care what the was doing, but on day as i was walking down a lane, i spotted him walking towrad's me & istinctivly looked into his handS to see if he was carrying his knife that id often saw him flicking, but his hand was empty but still my heart started racing thinking is he going to murder me.?? Who is he.?? What is it he get's upto in those fields.?? As he got closer I looked right into his wrinckledy old face that was half hidden by his dirty flat cap..he started to slow down.."What you upto down here on your own" he asked ? I replyed "Egging mister" why.? He said.. "you shouldnt be this far out on your own that's why.. Where you from".?? Over there mister..as i pointed to pritty much nowhere...why what you doing ..whats in the bag I ased.?? Nevermind what Im upto..stay off these field's you'v got no rights to be out on them...Oh Ok I replyed & on my way i went but I had a feeling he was hidding somthing so I decided to hang around the lane & see where he went.

The old git walked down the lane as i walked up the lane, I occasionally looked back to see where he was going but he dint seem to look back at me so i kept peeping over my shoulder to see what he was going to do next.

I saw him turn right at the bottom of the lane so i started walking back till i reached a gate. I could see his flat cap bobbing up and down behind the hedge's as he walked..then he opened a gate and went inot the field and before long got down on his nee's as i saw him do time & time's before. I got over the gate id stopped to watch him by & walked through the field..his bag at the side of him and he was sticking his knife in the ground, then out came somthing from the bag and he burryed it in the ground & i wached him doing the some thing several time's before packing back away a few of the thing's he was putting in the ground as he looked around then got up and went on his way. I got up from my hidding place and walked away and later returned to the place where id watched him from. Eventually I plucked up the courage to walk over to the place where i saw him burrying thing's..there was mole hills all over the place & there out of the ground carfully hidden with grass where 2 rusty metal prong's.

I pulled at one of them & stupidly but only due to unknowning touched a round thing in the middle..& Snap.. right on my finger.!! Flipping heck it's a flipping trap for catching mole's.!! He's a flipping mole catcher... Not a flipping murderer as Id first thought.

I shoved the bloody thing back in the hole & on my way I went.

An Inrtodution to moleing for the Air Gunner.

This is my first year In mole trapping & I want to share what Iv learnt with young & the older generation of Air Gunner's that would find it usefull in expanding there vermin controlling hobby.

At the moment Im putting together some photo's iv taken recently & the tool's and trap's that I have been using, But.!! Firstly I want you all to wash out the myth's you have been told on how hard moleing is...Because it isnt, it's easy if you put in the time and learn fast from your mistake's.

So without further a delay il close this thread for now and get my thing's that i have used, and learnt together and start on my next thread.

Nice write-up, memories of going out all day left to make our own entertainment. No silly E.U. rule telling us that we can't do this and that, i feel sorry for kids now and in the future because they cant think for themselves, they can't problem solve.
