Loomis Loading?

Recommended Posts

Hi All,

Long and short of it is, Can you load a Loomis needle a wrong way? Ive made 70+ purse nets since Jan, that are all pukka, using the normal style of needle. So then I got the gear to make some fox nets, but I seem to be getting a bit of twist. I made a spool jig for loading, ages ago, so I know its coming off the spool right.

The only thing different now, is that Im using a big Loomis needle.

Only thing I can think of, is that the needle is rotating in my hand as I knit and putting the twist in, that said, Im making a concious effort to refrain from doing it, but Im still getting it. Any ideas Lads n Lasses? Cheers, Rob.

NIce one Teg`s, I`ll give that a try. Lol Netrigger, feck that, I could bgodge one of them with a battery drill...

No probs, quite clearly some dont do this. I am trying to rack my brains though of an easy way of doing it without rotating the needle, as I do that with the loomis and the convential style of needle.

Hope somebody is of help anyway.

Hi tegater ,,, just wind the twine onto the needle without rotating it ... These Needdles were devised years ago to make life just that more easy... Just change hands from right to left whilst loading the Needle...

heres a bit of history regarding these fine Needles..

Net rigger is correct in what he is saying. I have used these needles for around 30 years, you do not twist the needle as you load it.

The smaller needle started life the same size as the large one, but years of rigging fishing nets has taken it's toll. It is hard to get these needles in the uk now due to the demise of hand rigged nets. Although, if you look hard enough they are still to be found.
