personally i enjoy a walk with my dogs ...........no tred mill here ........lazy mans toy :big_boss:

what if you have several dogs and a spell of bad weather ? do you take each dog out and get soaked through and freezing(yourself and dogs)....or maintain a decent level of fitness on a mill...makes perfect sense to me

never mind several dogs i've got nine workers and one house pet and they all get walked no matter what the weather .... i live in wales it is wet most of the time here .......... gortex water proofs rule ok :laugh:

F@@k me, i can not believe i have just read all of this!!

Proper dog men? Stay in the kennel for 23 hours of the day, running machine for the other hour.

I guess this is going to put a lot of folks on their high horse about treadmills but come on, where is the countrymen amoungst you??

Fair play I am sitting in front of a computer right now, I use it for work every day, however you will not find a TV in my house, that is for couch potatoes, them who do not have time to dedicate at least an hour either end of the day to their dogs do not diserve to keep them.

Get your ar*es outside in the fresh air, always remember with dogs you will get out what you put in. Welll done to all of you who put in 240V you should be proud of your efforts!!

Just off the top of my head I can say that such coursing men as Chalkie, Tony H, Jim F and the most succesful Forley cup competitor of all Alan S will admit to use treadmills as part of their conditioning. I'm sure Alan would be interested to hear where he went wrong in winning the thing twice and running up once.

Where this notion of one hour on the mill and 23 hours in a pen came from I've no idea! Please don't judge us by those poor standards.

When I built my aviary and my dog boxes I used a cordless drill to screw in the brackets......would I have been more of a countryman had I used a manual screwdriver? Would I be more of a countryman if I took my dogs to hunt on a pony and trap?

My prefered footwear for walking the dogs is modern waterproof hiking boots. Am I to be berated for not wearing clogs?

Please excuse me for trying to reason with the unreasonable, but if you read my earlier posts I had already answered most of these points.

Hi Hob&Jill, That one cost me 1600 euro from a greyhound trainer in Ireland who makes them for the greyhound trade. For years I had used a human treadmill but that only allowed one dog at a time on, so I tried to buy the one that's advertised in the greyhound star. It is made in the south of England and would have cost a fortune to transport. The Irish guy was prepared to deliver to the border where I had it picked up. If you are interested in the two dog walker from England let me know and I'll forward the details. It was priced about £1250 at the time I enquired.

Dont let the cynics put you off, I work 12 hours a day monday to friday. I get up at 5:30 am and dont get home till 7:45 pm since last september and my dogs get all they need. At the weekends I'll have them up the fields for four or five hours free playing and yet when we get home they'll scratch at the back door to get up on the mill for another three or four hours.
