reddawn 2,173
being a tad harsh there saying if she has to go she will go, id go back to basics as far as stock is concerned, but it dont sound as tho she has done anything bad mate, showed a bit of intrest, if she been on a lead for 2 weeks she will be busting for a run an a stretch, keep ye eye on her an nip any attention she pays to them in the bud Quote Link to post

mally 832
Give her some one to one training mate, I'd use a lunge rope about 30 yards long that way you have control of her if the worst should happen and she does decide to chase shout NO just before the rope tightens. She'll think twice before doing it again. Lambs are more of a temptation to anydog and with her being in season and on the lead for a fortnight, she was probably just buzzed up a bit. I'd wait until she's over her season and walk her again on her own near them. She may not look twice, you know what women are like with PMT !!! 2 Quote Link to post
seang 163
If she wanted she would have grabbed it id walk as close as you can to them wit her on leash and sit down for a while near them let her see that you have no interest id dog before that was stock broken but slipped him on deer one night with another dog after that he was keen to have a run at cattle thats what i done for over a week and he stopped it,as mally said lambs are a come chase me to dogs they run away for nothing Quote Link to post
Rake aboot 4,936
Keep at it mate, It would be a strange dog that didn`t need breaking to sheep. Basic lead work and plenty of it, certainly would not be thinking about getting rid just for this. ATB Quote Link to post
Moll. 1,770
In my experience, they all try it on, one time or another, no matter how well stock trained they are. I sometimes think a half hearted attempt like your bitch did is not a bad thing. It is easier to show a dog what is wrong when they are actually doing it, consequences of actions. Or an easier way to explain it is..... You can tell a child a hundred times if they touch fire it will hurt, but they never really understand untill they actually touch it. 5 Quote Link to post

Millet 4,497
Maybe or maybe the dog will go the opposite way and attack stock through fear ??? Aswell as that possibility what do you think the farmer would say if he see's you messing about with the dog of the lead near his tub's that are pretty expensive to replace..a long line is the way forward and a much safer option for your dog and the sheep. 2 Quote Link to post
