kimbokenneth 12
if u had to pick between the 2 of these!!!!! what would u rather in the dog u worked and why!!!! Quote Link to post
beast 1,884
they bring some quite different qualities. people say beardies are more independent etc but borders can be equally so, depends on the dog and how its trained and entered. ive owned and seen a few dogs which were a mix of beardie and border wiht greyhound, and the right one of this mix can be better than either (although the wrong one can be crap!!) . in my experience the beardie is less of a natural retriever than the border, so for this reason o would pick a border cross but as i say they bring different things to the table so i can't say which is better Quote Link to post
Chid 6,586
Border for me , only because I like the look of them better lol Quote Link to post
rob284 1,682
One or the other is a safer bet. When they're mixed they rarely produce good lurchers. Quote Link to post
Rabbiting man 1,192
Ive had both so for me its got to be the Border Collie x . 1 Quote Link to post
BLACKWATER... 157
all the best colie lurchers had beardie in them ive saw , m c glens danny fallon ,several others ,borders are alrite but come can be nesh nervous soft, beardies got more a terrier attitude , the right ones ,have , i worked the hill for five seasons with a beardie lurcher in some harsh weather , she never took a day off and was very hardy and bomb proof ,started picking her rabbs at six but had thousands , as they were thick on the ground , border not as hardy in any way some of the beardie heads were very strong but not a beginers dog at times , she never lost condition in shitty weather like a smooth coat when ferreting all day etcin snow etc Edited June 10, 2012 by BLACKWATER... 1 Quote Link to post

johnny boy68 11,726
A collie x of either in the right hands and brought on well will make a good rabbiting cur, I find beardies are a better hunting dog to the border x's also they seem more independent where he border is a bit more sensitive, not all but the majority of sensitive one's seem to be border x's. BLACKWATER... 157
mines was no were near sensitive any the collie types i had fech they would pull a hoose down , but pity the young inexpierenced owner, at times ,was bone fire nite fechng beardie saw a firework moving she was wanting to chase it, the colie type ive got and the old beardie type are pretty bombproof , i think due to having a bit beardie through them , i would say going back the beardie had scotish deerhound in them scottish terrier all the hill dogs or highland dogs all had good jackets and more leggier , hence the right old beardie were a lot leggier tougher , but not very good pets at times Quote Link to post
darbo 4,776
had one in the late eighties bomb proof temperament always gave his best. great coat and feet.the dog was never in any way sensitive. 25 inch dog good nose great for hunting up.wouldnt mind one now from a genuine working beardy to a greyhound for the rabbiting game.
