Ideation 8,216
i must say thats one strong looking whippet. Cheers mate. That's the thing though, he is very strong for a whippet, but not that fast for a whippet. I guess that's the way he has been bred, toward the work, and not toward the racing. Don't get me wrong, he is fast enough, but just not a real speed machine (although that may also have a littler to do with some bangs he has taken. But aye, if he decides to chuck something around and hurt it, it gets hurt. Quote Link to post

morton 5,368
Morton - i agree 100 % that it is all in the breeding. I just think sometimes folk assume that any and all lurchers will better a whippet, and that just isn't true. Chart - I agree mate, although my whippet couldnt win a race to save his life One of the best dogs ive ever had the pleasure of walking the land with was a rag racing 22" Barnsley bred whippety, alas it was,nt the norm,if this dog could have been replicated i may have trod a different path, possibly,i have found my pleasures in other types that produced the goods on a more reliable basis. I've got two Lurcher bitches, 23" & 29", and they take less looking after than our Mini Manchester Terrier and Chihuahua !! LOL !! Cheers. Quote Link to post

Terrier Sam 297
I think the same as most comment mate. I have a non ped whippet from sooty sam and laguna lines, iv had one full season with him and hes been great. Its great fun watching him work but due to thin, tight skin, hes had a couple of cuts which required treatment and time off which in turn, meant loosing about 6 weeks out of the season in total. Iv recently got a pup and i took a long time deciding what to get and chose to get a lurcher (beddy whip x whip grey - pics on another recent thread on here) for the above reasons but also i felt that the whippet didnt have quite enough speed on a long straight run. Once hes turn it a couple of times he would almost certainly catch and im only talking rabbits here. Now im not tarring them all with the same brush by any stretch and I would definately have another but for an alrounder id go for a lurcher ATB Sam Quote Link to post
