Irish Game Fair at Shanes - Prizes

Hunting folk that know what they are doing would know not to take a dog hunting until they are about 18 months to 2 year old and I am not talking about going up the park and giving a dog a slip on a bunny.I'm talking about a good 8 hours in the hills with the lamp on a WINTERS nite.Your last comment say it all about what is wrong with the shows at the moment people taking pups out from an early age working them on hard summer ground getting them injuries and then complaining when they don't get placed in shows for the rest of its life due to good judges knowing were to look for the injuries, then when that happens apparently everything else in the show was a show pony.

well i mustn't know what] i am doing, even though all i meant was that even if the pup only ever had its teeth into a couple of quarry it wud already be more of a "working dog" than most of the dogs that you see in the ring. and pups not getting placed cause of injuries cause of hard ground, not round ere the place is a swamp cause of the rain we get, i will be watching( in the puppy classes) out for the lame, hop along pups that shouldnt of bin allowed out of the kennel til they were 2 year old. most of the dogs in the ring are show ponies, what odds if they are, if thats what their owners r into showing not hunting. but you cannot say a pup should not be judged against a working dog when you do not know what each dog in the ring does out of that prestigious (lmao) show ring. unless your that much of an expert and you can just look in the dogs eyes and know it has caught vermin lol

Well you must be doing somthing wrong with a name like that !!!! do you also want to race your pup along with the older dogs to ??????????? think about it if you had to pick a dog to take out for the night which would you pick a 9 month old or a two year old ?because to me this is what a judge is looking for a dog that they would like to have at the of a lead on a nights hunting .

pups have a final and they have to have a cut of point so thats a year as it has been for as long as i remember, theres hardly much point in an arguement as it cant change so enjoy the shows and relax

will there be a stall for the iwtf to help all the working terrier folk ?

As this is our 25th All Ireland Championships staged at our 50th Irish Game Fair , since we launched the Game Fair concept in Ireland in 1978, we have pulled out all of the stops to make this a memora

MTF ,

For better or for worse the decision has been taken on the All Ireland Championships that pups are not eligible to compete for the overall championships BUT as I have said we do have a Puppy Championship where the whippet, lurcher & terrier pup compete against each other under three judges to be judged All Ireland Puppy Champion 2012 and apart from the title the winner will have a tankard and £25.

Albertj

that's an honest name, ya cant catch them all, that's y i wouldn't try to say i don't miss any, anyway a names a name on this argumentative forum u don't have to take it literally. why would i race a pup at a show sure it would break down on that "hard summer ground". fair enough yes you def would think with that thought in the judges mind the pup would not stand a chance against the older dogs in a final. not that it matters as pups are not in the final. but how come in the working classes and fox classes you continuously see the winners and they are just show dogs no signs of work, so ya wouldn't know what actually judges are looking for.

could you go into a ring and pick out every dog that works keeping in mind that its the dog your looking at not the owner?

without looking at the owner doubt it, i have no prob with people who just show their dogs, its when they win the likes of a fox class with a dog that wouldn't no what a fox is that's when it annoys people. so in that class it should be easier to tell which dogs work . but at the end of the day its the judges decision and they get enough criticism and if a so called "big time hunter" doesn't win a wee rosette and throws a strop then they should be a judge see how they like being criticized for every decision they make. it should be a family day out and a bit of craic instead of everyone taking it so serious.

It is not the judge's fault if people enter their dogs in classes that they are not qualified for . BUT what degree of work and once again the judge should be judging on condition, conformation not what dog has the most 'signs of work'. If a dog has bolted a fox once - should it be qualified for a working class? Or twice or three times.....? The difference between these working classes and working gundog clases is the dog has actually had to prove it can work.

I have had a number of enquiries as to whether Welsh, English and Scottish competitors are eligible to come and compete for the ALL IRELAND TITLES and prizes and the answer is YES!

Apart from the Master Mc Grath which is pre -qualify and dogs from England, Scotland and Wales have qualified to meet dogs from allover Ireland in the final all other competitions are ENTRY on the DAY and OPEN TO ALLCOMERS. This is what makes the prestige of winning an ALL IRELAND TERRIER, WHIPPET , LURCHER or even PUPPY title so great and one of the most prestiogous in these islands. Your dog has defeated all who could or did enter in open competition under in this case SCOTTISH judges.

MTF,

Sorry I missed this post - someone pointed it out that you had thanked me for putting up the Pup prize. Have to admit I had missed this out in my list of prizes. We normally do have a best puppy.

AFTER HAVING A VERY ABUSIVE AND DISTRESSING PHONE CALL THIS MORNING AT 8.25am FROM SOMEONE WHO SENT ME AND ASKED ME TO PUT A WINNING PHOTOGRAPH UP ON MY SITE OF A VERY WORTHY WINNING PERSON AT CRUFTS, UNFORTUNATELY THERE WERE SOME VERY UNSAVOURY COMMENTS MADE UNDER MY POST. THAT POST HAS NOW BEEN TAKEN DOWN.
AS I SAID BEFORE AND I WILL SAY IT AGAIN, I LOVE COUNTRY SPORTS AND HAVE DEDICATED A BIG PART OF MY  LIFE FOR OVER 30 YEARS  DOING EVERYTHING I CAN TO BETTER THE SPORT. WHEN SOMETHING LIKE THIS HAPPENS, AND THANKFULLY IT DOES NOT HAPPEN VERY OFTEN, IT PULLS ME DOWN TO THE DEPTHS. I TAKE MY OWN PHOTOGRAPHS  AT OUR SHOWS AND DO MY WRITEUPS IN A PROPER MANNER AND WOULD NEVER CRITICIZE OR BRUTALISE THE HARD WORK THAT ALL OUR SHOW ORGANISERS PUT INTO GETTING THEIR SHOWS ON THE ROAD.
HAVIING SAID ALL OF THIS, I  MUST NOW  STRESS, ANY DEROGATORY OR HURTFUL REMARKS THAT IS MADE BY ANY INDIVIDUAL UNDER ANY OF MY POSTS WILL BE TAKEN DOWN IMMEDIATELY.  IF UNSAVOURY POSTS NEED TO BE MADE, PLEASE MAKE THEM ON YOUR OWN SITES AND NOT IN MY NAME, AS THE VERBAL ABUSE I HAVE TO TAKE IS NOT NICE, AND ESPECIALLY TO SOMEONE WHO ONLY  DOES GOOD FOR THE SPORT.
AS WE KNOW COUNTRY SPORTS IS BEING PULLED THROUGH THE MUCK AT THE MOMENT,  WE AS PEOPLE HAVE THE  POWER, SO FOR THE GOOD OF COUNTRY  SPORTS  TRY AND PULL TOGETHER  AND HELP EACH OTHER OUT, AND WE WILL WIN IN THE  END. PLEASE FEEL FREE TO CONTINUE TO POST YOUR COMMENTS ON MY SITE AS LONG AS THEY ARE STRAIGHT AND CLEAN AND FOR THE GOOD OF THE SPORT.

A TRIBUTE TO THE LATE JIMMY SCOTT, A TOP DOGGIE MAN IN OUR COUNTRY SPORTS FRATERNITY, WHO LEFT THIS WORLD ON Christmas Day.   I Am Free Do not grieve for me now my friends and family, I am free. I am following the path God Laid for me. I took his hand when I heard him call, I turned my back and left it all.   I could not stay another day to show, to live , to hunt, to fish or play. I found my peace at close of day. Be not burdened with this time of sorrow I wish you the sunshine of tomorrow. Perhaps my time seemed all to brief. Do not lengthen it now with undue grief.   Lift up your hearts my friends and share with me. God wanted me now, He set me free.   From all in Country Sports Margaret Mc Stay
