Hello there

Here's a link to a website that has a load of tutorials, just navigat from the box at the left hand side..

They also sell everything that's needed, I don't think they post to the UK but you can look through the vaious materials and get used to what you'll need to complete the job ;)

If you have a linisher you can actually use old files for blades, or you can go the whole hog and get an anvil to forge your own blades..

If you have a Comwells store near you you can buy O1 precision ground steel that is fantastic for blades or you can even buy blades with bevels already ground..

Like these..

Have a look at British Blades website too, they have some fantastic cutlers on there

Good luck with your new hobby :toast:

Cheers, John :bye:

there is decent "bladesmith " on here :whistling:

and loads of knife makers !!

its one of those things if you want it you will find the info .

iv invited loads of people over to learn to forge stuff up from basic blades to damascus but nobody ever turns up !!!

there is one member on here who we have agreed will come over and forge up a few files into knives then im not going to offer anymore !!

first thing first work out if you want to be a knife maker or a bladesmith/cutler

bladesmith/cutler understand the steels and start with raw materials working to the point of a finnished knife bar the handle and sheath .

knife makers do the rest from compleating finnished blades and also stock removal knife making which makes up 95% of knives made world wide , stock removal is where you take bar stock blade quality steel in the anealed state and grind everythging onto it , useualy sent off for heat treating and tempering and back to the knife maker to do the rest .

its a massive topic and hard to do anything much that is 100% original . there is loads to learn and you cant skip any of it or you wont understand what seperates your knives from anyone elses , the buying public are very informed now on this stuff and demand very good quality .

but its great thing to do and enjoyable thing to learn .

good luck with it . ps im on british blades and donmt expect to much from asking questions on there , they expect you to have read everything before you ask !!

all the best , matt
