esoxluscious 44
is the above falcon a gyr/saker hybrid? didnt know they could take hares/rabbits and would you spend alot of time tracking him/her down on a days hunt? great pics Quote Link to post
arcticgun 4,548
yeah mate its a gyr saker tiercel, he never wanders too far mate to be honest, almost like a harris hawk, except he follows in circles, hewas trained on ground lure and dragged carcass, shows indifference to ariel game, although he had odd bit of feather, comes back into swung lure though, later in season he started to circle fields and spot hares himself in seats and stoop then as well, the rabbits he has found himself and odd one from fist, hares mainly flown from fist with dog flushing them and keeping them out of cover, had telemetry out twice so far this season, Quote Link to post
esoxluscious 44
sounds good, does he bind straight away or hit the hare a couple of times? what sort of weight does he fly at? Quote Link to post
arcticgun 4,548
he flys at 1lb 14 oz he stoops the hare to weigh it up and has bound to a couple of them, stopped two outright with no dog present, which amazed me, on a proper stoop the hare dont know whats hit it Quote Link to post
