davyt63 1,845
hi rob yeah seen this before, its not the air rifle its the shooter Quote Link to post
zini 1,939
Yeah that is some nice shooting skills being displayed there by the guy with the springer. Being American I should also imagine that both rifles are FAC, 20 to 34 foot pounds probably minimum and so the wind doesn't have that much time to make a impact on the pellet over 50 yards like it does with a sub 12, but still though very nice shooting all the same. Its defo given me a idea for this weekend. We could re run this test at sub 12 and see how the springers do against a pcp . With a nice calm day and the right pellet i think a springer could come pretty close to the results of a pcp, at least be within 15mm to 20mm of the pcp anyway. Si. robwelsh 354
I thought I'd post it as there has been some questions raised about whether to get pcp or Springer, or which is best etc..once iv customized my huntsman , I might get a Springer again some time next year lol Quote Link to post
ghillies 209
yup yup..user default lol Quote Link to post
Skot Ruthless Teale 1,701
to make this a 'fair' test in my oppinion the same guy should be using both rifles.. for example if Si (zini) used his hw100 and his hw97 to do a grouping comparison.. we all know he is a brilliant shot and his knowledge of his own rifles best pellet etc would be spot on so you know it would be a true comparison of pcp vs springers or davy with his guns... or a lot of other great shots on here.. ghillies 209
it isnt just a 'same guy' sinario... its what you get hot with basicaly, which is an individual thing. i have in the past been up to one hole groupings standing (clovered hole..) standing, with a springer, alas not in a few years like lol. the piont being today i wouldnt be up to it... bin on a pcp for 6 year.(and age lol). (50 yard standing...). Edited June 7, 2012 by ghillies Quote Link to post
Skot Ruthless Teale 1,701
50 yard standing 1 hole groups with a springer.. thats great shooting .. respect Quote Link to post
davyt63 1,845
50 yard standing 1 hole groups with a springer.. thats great shooting .. respect that's bullshit shooting...respect Quote Link to post
zini 1,939
Ill second that one Skot, brilliant shooting that Ghillies. I have never met anyone that can 1 hole with a springer at 50 yards and standing. Best I have ever done is a 1 hole group about 13mm at 40 metres a few days a go with a springer, but from the prone and rested on a cushion and my hand and i thought that was pretty good . Awesome Ghillies I would of loved to watch you when you were at your prime . Si. Edited June 7, 2012 by zini Quote Link to post
paulk73 151
i once got a 1 hole group standing at 65 yrds. .................... problem was it was on the target next to the 1 i was shooting at. and it was only a one pellet group.lol 1 Quote Link to post

robwelsh 354
But skot how would that be a fair comparison..I'm not going on about shooters ability..I put it up to try an stop "which is best" bollocks lol therefore showing the guns ability when shot correctly, can be just as accurate. 50yrd standing one hole groups? With a Springer ?..why ever did you buy a pcp hahaha..or you been eating shit soup again? Quote Link to post
Flow 18
Well as you know I'm pretty new to air rifles, I've only been shooting a month or so, therefore not very biased. I have used both, personally I think shooting accurately with a PCP is too easy, so much so its almost boring (no challenge). A springer can be shot as accurately but it takes far more skill and is therefore much more rewarding. I shot this 8 shot group in an unsupported seated position at 15 yards with my HW97K last week when zeroing my new scope (there was a target in front of it). If I can do that with a springer being a noob, anyone can! Edit: The coin is a 5p, the white balance on the camera is wrong so it looks a strange colour. robwelsh 354
Grouping itself should be done at around 30yards tho, as close range the wobble won't affect it much at close range..moving a few mm. 30yrds back can throw the pellet off a lot down range. Both have their place tbh..pcp more of a workers tool so to speak . Springer is more of a Sunday stroll rifle Quote Link to post
